I get commissions for purchases made through links in this post. Read more

How should you choose a high-end espresso machine? Check out my verdict on the battle of Saeco Xelsis vs Jura E8. This pair features 2 most famous high-end espresso makers for home use ever, and I have my money bet on the final winner: Saeco Xelsis.

Jura E8 and Xelsis are both formidable opponents in the game. But thanks to its bold espresso and smooth extraction progress, Saeco Xelsis excels with its much lower price. Value and good price this is what I get from Xelsis. But what impresses me the most is the integration of 6 different user profiles for a more personal barista experience. I highly recommend the machine for a group of 3 daily coffee drinkers.

As for Jura E8, the machine offers a convenient experience. There are 17 programmable one-touch recipes that I enjoy without having to intervene with the espresso extraction or the milk frothing. Everything is prepared and brewed to perfection.

Saeco Xelsis vs Jura E8: Differences

Saeco Xelsis wins 4-2 against Jura E8 thanks to its flawless espresso flavor and potent milk carafe circuit that facilitates perfect microfoam. This machine also is better priced, so don’t hesitate to try it out. You can check my full review below!

Espresso flavor

It’s a tie!

This pair will do a phenomenal job if you are looking for a potent mid-range machine that can brew bold and rich espressos. I have never extracted watered-down or too-bitter cups with these machines, which is something uncommon for most espresso makers. If you want to enjoy consistent espressos flavor with perfectly sweet and bitter notes, I highly recommend Saeco Xelsis and Jura E8.

Dosing + tamping

Winner: Jura E8

Saeco Xelsis takes a while to dose, which sometimes makes me impatient. I have to wait longer than I did with the Jura E8 while this gadget doses. Fortunately, the devices execute the dosing and tamping procedures automatically, eliminating the need for me to observe and participate during the whole extraction procedure.

E8 utilizes 5 to 16 g compared to Xelsis’s 7 to 10 g. Hence it offers a wider range of coffee strengths.
Both are excellent at extracting a strong and fresh flavor. However, E8 makes it easy to adjust the volume or coffee strength and produce stronger or mellower beverages. This is a crucial factor to take into account while choosing your suitable espresso machine.

Heating system and temperature performance

It’s a tie!

Both Jura E8 and Saeco Xelsis use a single Thermoblock to heat water. Their performance is somewhat similar since they take around the same amount of time to prime the system and boil water to the ideal brewing temperature.

I usually wait 5-10 minutes since a longer starting up duration ensures a better coffee temperature most of the time, even though it is not necessary since they technically take around a minute only.

The temperature is relatively high, and the pair produces hot espressos and coffees, just as I prefer.

Milk SYstem

Winner: Saeco Xelsis

Saeco Xelsis boasts a potent milk system that froths microfoam with ease. Jura E8 doesn’t fall behind when frothing microfoam, either. But what makes Saeco Xelsis excel is its stable milk temperature and silent operation. I have made dozens of cappuccinos and latte macchiatos with Saeco Xelsis, and I’m satisfied with all the cups I have pulled with the machine.

Design & Material

Winner: Saeco Xelsis

I like smaller devices because I mostly use espresso machines for review purposes, which don’t require much brewing daily. Because Saeco Xelsis is significantly more compact than Jura E8, it triumphs in this regard. Additionally, it includes a front water tank that is readily removable for refilling. Because of this, this model’s design is superior.

The materials used to construct the Jura E8 and Saeco Xelsis are of the highest caliber and include hard plastic, stainless steel, chrome, and aluminum. Overall, they feel solid but aren’t burdensome to carry. That is appealing!

Additional features

Winner: Saeco Xelsis

Saeco Xelsis and Jura E8 have simple indicators that notify when there is no water left in the tank or no water filter installed. But what makes Saeco Xelsis win in the round of additional features is its profile system. There is a total of 6 individual profiles, and each profile allows users to brew and memorize their own adjustments for each recipe that they choose.

What is the benefit of this? If you are sharing the machine with other adults and each person has a different taste, you can each brew differently without having to readjust the recipes each time you brew to fit your preference.

Also, I prefer the drip tray on Saeco Xelsis because its deeper design makes spilling less of a problem. With Jura E8 and its narrow drip tray, it’s important to dunk the content frequently after each brewing session.

Saeco Xelsis vs Jura E8: Similarities

There are 2 major similarities that I want to point out: the adjustable spout height and the elaborate one-touch system that Saeco Xelsis and Jura E8 shares.

Adjustable spout height

For the espresso spout, we can adjust the height from 65 – 111 mm with Jura E8 and 75-148 mm with Saeco Xelsis. Jura E8 actually has 2 different spouts. The cappuccino spout can handle a cup as tall as 153 mm. Overall, this feature isn’t new, but the cup clearance is something you need to keep in mind when purchasing new cups when you already have an espresso machine.

Impressive one-touch system

The one-touch system is highly crucial for users who want a certain level of automation. And here are the drinks that you can make with Jura E8 and Saeco Xelsis:

  • Saeco Xelsis: espresso, coffee, cappuccino, latte macchiato, caffe latte, flat white, espresso lungo, Americano, espresso macchiato, ristretto, espresso doppio, cafe au lait, froth milk, warm milk, and hot water
  • Jura E8: espresso, coffee, caffe barista, lungo barista, espresso doppio, cortado, espresso macchiato, cappuccino, cappuccino extra shot, flat white, flat white extra shot, latte macchiato, latte macchiato extra shot, portion of milk foam, and hot water.

Quick Rundown of Saeco Xelsis

Saeco Xelsis Super Automatic Espresso Machine, Titanium Metal Front, SM7684/04
  • Note: 1)Too coarse a grind, too little coffee, or insufficiently tamping the grounds before brewing can all lead to inadequate pressure for a proper brew. 2)It is important to note that the amount of espresso extracted will vary depending on the grind size and amount and reprogramming may be needed when the size and amount are adjusted. Please refer to user guide or user manual or user guide (provided below in PDF) before first use
