Gaggia Cadorna Prestige vs Jura E8: Which one is better? I sided with Jura E8, although the Cadorna Prestige is great as well.
It looks like this time, the Swiss brand didn’t hesitate to equip The Jura E8, an espresso mid-range machine with cutting-edge technologies such as P.E.P., Professional Fine Foam, an Intelligent Water System, and more. In addition, it features an impressive range of one-touch beverages, an array of one-touch beverages, customizable settings, and self-cleaning routines. However, it is not a kitchen appliance for every budget.
If you are on a tight budget, you will be better off with the Gaggia Cadorna Prestige. This one can create barista-standard drinks without costing an arm and a leg: It comes at a price tag significantly less steep than its counterparts with comparable features and capabilities. I really like its “User Profiles” feature, which allows saving up to 4 different settings of the same one-touch drink, and many other features that you will find in this post.

Gaggia Cadorna Prestige Vs Jura E8: Differences
The Jura E8 decidedly trumps the Gaggia Cadorna Prestige with a scoreline of 4-1, aptly demonstrating the age-old adage, “You get what you pay for.” Keep reading to see more!
Coffee Flavour
Winner: Jura E8
Built-in Grinder
Ah, the built-in grinder. Isn’t it the heart of the “bean-to-cup” process? So it’s good to start with it! The Jura E8 comes with an onboard Aroma G3 grinder, while the Jura E8 features a ceramic flat burr grinder. Both carry their own merits and demerits, but if I were to pick a side, I’d lean slightly toward the former.
The Aroma G3 grinder really delivers on speed without sacrificing consistency. It is quoted as grinding twice as fast as standard grinders but delivering 12% more aroma, resulting in delicious espressos with rocket speed. Better yet, it operates with such quiet efficiency that it’s almost “whisper-like.” All right, that’s just an exaggeration, but this one is very quiet, registering at about 55-60 dB – no louder than a running dishwasher or washing machine.
As for the ceramic flat burr grinder, its biggest selling point is that it doesn’t overheat during the grinding process. So it does not burn the coffee ground and helps to preserve the original aroma of the beans. It’s also not too noisy, at around 68 dB, so it can do its job without disturbing the peace of your household.
On the other hand, grind size is also important for a perfect espresso. Combined with many other factors, this gives you impressive control over your shots. Basically, the more grind settings in an espresso machine, the better. The Gaggia Cadorna Prestige has 10 settings, allowing you to control the strength of your coffee with ease: fine settings lead to powerful espressos, while coarser ones result in milder versions. Meanwhile, the Jura E8 has only six settings, which is not much but matches its price tag.
Switching between grind settings is a breeze for the Jura E8: Just flip a flap on top of the machine and turn an adjustment dial. Meanwhile, the Cadorna Prestige requires pairing the dosing spoon with a yellow tip inside the bean hopper, which is a bit “Heath Robinson-esque.”
Heating System
Both have a single boiler system, meaning they can’t brew espresso and steam milk at the same time – This is not a big deal for home use. But for larger settings, where speed is one of the prerequisites, a model with double boilers, such as the Jura Giga 6, will do the job.
The good news is that the Cadorna Prestige’s boiler features stainless steel-lined aluminum construction and can come up to the proper temperature in just one minute. Meanwhile, Jura E8 is ahead of the game with a thermoblock heating system that only heats the required amount of water, thus bringing the wait time between processes down to a little over 10 seconds! Amazing! You and your loved ones can bid adieu to restlessness while waiting for your caffeine kick to energize you throughout the day!
Brewing System
Both the Gaggia Cadorna Prestige vs Jura E8 use a pre-infusion process as part of the espresso extraction process. It seems to be the standard for super-automatic espresso machines these days, and the only thing that makes Jura stand out from Gaggia and other brands is that they have an odd and complicated name for it – Pre-Brew Aroma System (IPBAS). This process essentially pre-soaks ground coffee with a small amount of hot water, allowing the coffee’s aromas to develop and ensuring optimal extraction.
However, the Jura E8 takes the lead with the Pulse Extraction Process (P.E.P.), another confusing term, but I’m not here to try to dazzle you with terminology! It is designed to get the most out of the extraction by forcing small amounts of hot water through the coffee ground in short bursts instead of maintaining consistent water pressure and flow rates. I found this technology to be really effective, not just a gimmick – Its espresso was full-bodied with a thick, dark crema without bitter notes.
Milk Frothing System
In the realm of super-automatic espresso machines, there are two factions of frothing milk systems: wand-equipped models and ones with automatic systems. The Gaggia Cadorna Prestige vs Jura E8 belong to the latter group, meaning you can prepare delightful milk-based drinks at home without unleashing your inner barista. Instead, all you need to do is press the button, wait, and enjoy.
The Gaggia Cadorna Prestige comes with an integrated milk jug, which consistently produces beautifully frothed milk. I also love this design: it sits neatly in front of the machine, helping to reduce the overall footprint and facilitating the making of a latte macchiato or cappuccino with a single touch.
The Cadorna Prestige’s carafe is also designed to froth the milk twice to remove the bubbles and leave behind nothing but a gorgeous foam at the perfect temperature. When not in use, you can also refrigerate it to prevent the milk from going bad.
On the flip side, the Jura E8 has the upper hand again, thanks to an advanced milk system and Professional Fine Foam technology. To my mind, there are two other factors that make the milk froth from this one better than the Cadorna Prestige and the many competitors out there.
Firstly, the E8 is equipped with a dial on the auto-frother, which gives you more control over the microfoam: It can be used to adjust the microfoam’s texture and toggled for hot milk if necessary. In addition, it also allows for refining the amount of milk to your liking (3–120 sec). It’s like giving you control of the helm, empowering you to navigate your own journey to concoct a delicious milk-infused drink that thrills your taste buds.
As for the latte macchiato, there is an adjustable interval that allows the hot milk to separate from the milk foam. That way, you will get a multi-layered drink that will not only satisfy your taste buds but also your sight. Such a culinary masterpiece deserves to be showcased in a see-through beaker.
Nonetheless, I found it quite disappointing that Jura omitted a milk carafe from the package. Given that I didn’t shy away from shelling out more than two and a half grand on this machine, isn’t it only fair to expect an under-$50 glass milk container? You can buy it separately if you want or use any alternative you have at your disposal. Setting up the Jura E8’s milk system is a breeze: Just connect your milk container to the milk frother via a tube.
Design & Usability
Winner: Jura E8
Dimensions, Footprint, & Weight
Gaggia Cadorna Prestige | Jura E8 | |
---|---|---|
Dimensions | 10.2 × 15 × 17.3 inches | 11 × 13.6 × 17.5 inches |
Weight | 21.2 lbs | 21.6 lbs |
Both the Gaggia Cadorna Prestige vs Jura E8 are stunning coffee machines, and I’m convinced they would add aesthetic value to any kitchen setting. Naturally, the perception of beauty is subjective.
The Cadorna Prestige is one of the most eye-catching models from Gaggia I’ve ever tested. Different from the nostalgic look and outdated pixel screens of most of its siblings, this one looks very trendy with a big color TFT screen – It seems Gaggia was inspired by Jura when building this model, which is something to be encouraged. Although it’s constructed mostly of plastic, the metal casing gives it a solid look and feel, providing the first impression that IT IS something that will last for years.
The Jura E8 comes in several different colors to adapt to a variety of kitchen styles. Well, this boy has an elegant and futuristic look, but it’s not something that has an Ironman-like appearance.
Neither of them holds the title of being the most massive or the most compact super-automatic espresso machine I’ve come across, and I believe that finding a suitable location for any of them in your kitchen should be fairly straightforward. But they can be a bit heavy for some people, especially those who are physically weak.
Pre-programmed Coffee Options
Gaggia Cadorna Prestige | Jura E8 |
---|---|
Ristretto Espresso Espresso lungo Coffee Americano Cappuccino Cappuccino XL Café au lait Café cortado Latte macchiato Latte macchiato XL Flat white Frothed milk Hot water | Espresso Coffee Caffè Barista Americano Espresso doppio Cortado Macchiato Cappuccino Cappuccino Extra Shot Flat white Flat white Extra Shot Latte macchiato Latte macchiato Extra Shot Portion of milk foam Hot water 2 × Espresso 2 × Coffee |
Both the Gaggia Cadorna Prestige vs Jura E8 offer whopping specialty drink options that can satisfy every member’s taste in a large family or a big setting such as an office or a minibar. And interestingly, somehow, hot water can be classified as a specialty drink, but it’s worth it: it will come into play whenever you desire a piping hot cup of tea or yearn for a delectable bowl of ramen. However, the Cadorna Prestige Shot’s hot water dispenser and milk frother share the same place, which can be frustrating for many people.
Each of the pre-set beverage options can also be customized to better suit your taste. As for the Gaggia Cadorna Prestige, you can change the coffee temperature (three levels), coffee strength (five levels), and the amount of coffee/milk. Meanwhile, the Jura E8 presents a wider range of adaptability with five coffee strength levels, three brewing temperatures, and a volume of coffee/frothed milk.
Want a decaf cup? These machines have got you covered! They come equipped with a bypass chute and a dosing spoon, allowing you to use pre-ground coffee. That way, you can enjoy a caffeine-free cup without emptying the bean hopper.
Spout & Cup Clearance
Gaggia Cadorna Prestige | Jura E8 | |
---|---|---|
Spout Type | Dual | Dual |
Cup Clearance | 2.76-6.1 inches | 2.6–4.4 inches |
Both come with a fully adjustable dual coffee spout, which can be raised to accommodate some taller latte macchiato glasses or lowered to avoid splashes when brewing shorter beverages. The Cadorna Prestige’s spigot can be raised up to 6 inches, allowing it to fit even my travel mugs.
I like that they allow for pulling two espressos or any non-milk drinks at once – This is definitely a boon for large families where large quantities of drinks need to be prepared in the morning in a rush. Unfortunately, preparing two milk-based drinks is not feasible.
Water Reservoir & Bean Hopper
Gaggia Cadorna Prestige | Jura E8 | |
---|---|---|
Water Reservoir | 1.5 liter | 1.9 liter |
Bean Hopper | 0.31 liter | 0.29 liter |
Their water reservoirs are generally more than enough for home use unless there’s an extreme caffeine aficionado in your home. I strongly advise replacing the water at the conclusion of each day to ensure you always have the perfect espresso the next day.
Has anyone told you that the quality of the water also directly affects the taste of the espresso? Water inherently contains various minerals, such as calcium and magnesium, which may lead to the accumulation of deposits in your machine during the heating process. This could subsequently result in subpar espresso and potentially degrade the machine’s performance over time. Do not worry! It turns out manufacturers have thought of everything!
These machines can be used with filters that are designed to remove these minerals: the Intenza Mavea water filter for Gaggia Cadorna Prestige and the Clearyl smart filter for Jura E8. However, if you opt to use the filter, you will have to live with a recurring fee associated with replacing the filter. So is it mandatory to use the filter? Certainly not! If your water has already undergone a trustworthy filtration process, you can comfortably bypass the filter.
Gaggia Cadorna Prestige vs Jura E8’s bean hoppers can hold up to 300 grams and 283 grams, respectively. But what the Jura E8 has over the Cadorna Prestige is that it has an “aroma preservation” top lid: it sports a silicone gasket that can seal nicely to preserve the beans’ freshness in the long run. As a result, you can refill the Jura E8’s hopper without having to worry about leaving your coffee beans in there for a couple of days.
Cleaning & Maintenance
Winner: Tie
Naturally, consistent and appropriate upkeep is essential for maintaining the longevity and performance of an espresso machine. And thankfully, these models are crafted to keep the degree of human involvement as low as possible, which means you’re not completely hands-free either.
For descaling, the machine will remind you when the time is right. Manufacturers recommend using only their own descaling solution, and I recommend obeying this: Gaggia descaler Solution for Gaggia Cadorna Prestige and Jura cleaning tablet for Jura E8. And as mentioned above, you’ll find you rarely have to descale the machine if you use a filter.
Similarly, you also need to prepare special solutions to clean their milk system: Philips milk circuit cleaner for the Gaggia Cadorna Prestige and Jura milk cleaner for the Jura E8. The process is almost fully automated, so just follow your user manual, and you will be fine.
You will need to complete some daily tasks, including emptying the drip tray, cleaning out the drip tray, emptying the coffee grounds container, and refilling the water tank. As for the Gaggia Cadorna Prestige, your daily maintenance task list gets a little longer with the cleaning of the removable brew group and the milk carafe under the tap.
Utilities & Other Features
Winner: Jura E8
Artificial Intelligence
Believe it or not, the Jura E8 is indeed capable of recalling your favored beverages and displaying them on the home screen. Hard to believe, isn’t it? But that’s really what the Jura E8 and many other high-end espresso machines can do with a self-learning algorithm.
Remote Control
Today, more and more appliances can be controlled remotely via a phone, such as air conditioners, televisions, refrigerators, vacuum cleaners, and, yes, super-automatic coffee machines like the Jura E8. Through a J.O.E. app, you can choose your favorite drink and make the necessary adjustments right from your cozy bed – Remember to ensure there’s a waiting cup there. But to use this nifty feature, you will need to purchase a Jura Smart Connect– another separately purchased thing.
User Profiles
If you’re not the only coffee lover in your family, Gaggia Cadorna Prestige’s “User Profiles” feature will come in handy. It can be quite a task to discover the perfect coffee blend that resonates with your taste buds. So, after all, what’s worse than tapping on your favorite drink and realizing it’s been modified by someone? It provides four user profiles corresponding to four different colored hearts, and you can choose one by pressing the “heart” button. Now, the only quandary left is deciding who gets to own which color!
