Espresso Machines

The Best Espresso Machine: What Makes It Great?

Build Materials

In general, low-budget espresso machines are made from weaker materials. There are more plastic components in these items than in high-end items. This will result in a shorter service life for your machine because the parts will wear out more quickly.

Be sure your machine’s boiler is stainless steel even if it’s mostly plastic. In addition to being more affordable, the machines would also have a longer lifespan, and they would brew espresso more effectively.

Brew Quality

The parts of a cheap espresso machine are usually less durable, so they will not produce the same degree of pressurization or heating as higher-priced machines. This may result in weaker espresso and less distinct flavors. It should be fine for most mixed drinks despite the strength not being ideal for sipping black.

Bells & Whistles

You should consider the tools a machine is equipped with before purchasing it. Does it come with a grinder? What about a steam wand?

The wands of low-end machines are less ergonomic and more likely to break. Several may not even be listed – you won’t find one with too many bells and whistles.

Flexibility

Lower-end machines are generally not as customizable or programmable compared to higher-end machines. In most cases, you won’t be able to control the brew strength or the cup size. As they severely restrict the type of coffee you can use, machines such as Nespresso and Keurig fall under the “zero-to-no flexibility” category.

As your knowledge and experience increase, you may find this frustrating, especially if you’re a beginning home barista.
