Today, Delonghi Dinamica vs Jura ENA 8 is my next espresso machine debate. Both are great automatic coffee machines. But for me, Delonghi Dinamica is a little more appealing.

The winner Delonghi Dinamica wins my heart thanks to its powerful, customizable grinder, quick heat-up time, easy-to-clean parts, and especially its affordable price.

The runner-up Jura ENA 8 is truly a countersign opponent. Not only the ENA 8 but many other Jura models are famous for their PEP espresso extraction technology and a wide range of one-touch beverage recipes. Its exterior design really suits any modern kitchen, and I was especially impressed with the unique design of the water tank.

Delonghi Dinamica vs Jura ENA 8: Differences

After weighing the differences between these two machines, I found that Delonghi Dinamica wins 2-0 and ties 2 against Jura ENA 8. Read the analysis below to know the pros and cons of each machine.

Coffee flavor and Brewing system

The winner: Delonghi Dinamica

Grinder

When it comes to the all-important feature of a grinder in an automatic coffee machine, both the DeLonghi Dinamica vs Jura ENA 8 offer strong options, albeit with some distinct advantages and features that differentiate them. The Jura ENA 8 is fitted with the Aroma G3 grinder, which scores high marks for speed, noise reduction, and uniform grinding. Adjusting the grind size is a breeze, thanks to a simple grinding wheel located conveniently around the bean hopper.

On the other hand, Delonghi Dinamica comes with a stainless steel conical burr grinder built into the machine. This design choice eliminates the need for a separate grinder, streamlining the coffee-making process. Unlike blade grinders that chop beans, DeLonghi’s burr grinder crushes them, ensuring a more uniform grind—crucial for achieving a balanced flavor profile in the final brew.

In terms of customization and adaptability, the DeLonghi Dinamica outshines the Jura ENA 8. While the latter offers 7 grind adjustment settings, the former boasts an impressive 13 options. This gives the DeLonghi machine an edge for coffee aficionados who enjoy experimenting with different coffee beans and brewing styles. The broader range of grind settings allows for more nuanced control, letting you dial in the perfect grind size to achieve the most aromatic and flavorful cup of coffee.

Both machines require careful attention when it comes to adjusting the grind size; it’s recommended to make adjustments while the grinder is operating to prevent jamming. Another point worth mentioning for long-term maintenance is the caution against using oily coffee beans in either machine. Oil buildup can compromise performance and even lead to damage over time. Therefore, the choice of coffee beans can be as important as the machine’s features for ensuring a high-quality brew and the longevity of your investment.

Heating system

The Jura ENA 8 comes equipped with a single thermoblock heating system. This means you can either make coffee or steam milk at any given time, not both simultaneously. While this may sound like a limitation, it’s mitigated by the fast-heating capabilities of the thermal block technology employed. You won’t find yourself twiddling your thumbs, waiting for the system to heat water for your next espresso or frothing task. This is a convenient feature for home users who generally don’t make multiple beverages in rapid succession.

Delonghi Dinamica boasts a Dual Thermoblock System, allowing you the luxury of brewing espresso and steaming milk at the same time. This is especially advantageous for those who may be making multiple drinks, perhaps for a family breakfast or social gathering and don’t want the wait times associated with single-function systems.

Beyond convenience, the dual thermoblock system also ensures more stable temperature control, so the machine doesn’t have to recalibrate between tasks. This translates to consistent quality in your espresso shots. Furthermore, the dual system is more energy-efficient and eliminates the risk of brewing with stale water—a factor that can significantly affect the flavor profile of your espresso.

Brewing system

Delonghi Dinamica vs Jura ENA 8 offers high-quality technology designed for optimal espresso extraction. At a foundational level, both machines employ a pre-brewing phase, an often underappreciated feature. This pre-wetting of the coffee grounds allows them to expand, which in turn maximizes aroma extraction—a critical aspect for any espresso aficionado.

Additionally, both machines operate at a pressure of 15 bar, well above the 9 bar minimum required for proper espresso extraction. This ensures that the machines are more than capable of pulling an espresso shot with the right balance of flavors and oils.

However, it’s the Jura ENA 8 that takes an extra leap in innovation with Jura’s patented P.E.P. (Pulse Extraction Process). This system doesn’t simply pass a continuous stream of hot water through the coffee grounds; instead, it uses rapid bursts of hot water to maximize flavor extraction within the optimal timeframe. My practical testing revealed that the Jura ENA 8 produced espresso shots that were richer and more aromatic, attesting to the efficacy of this advanced technology. To put it bluntly, Jura’s P.E.P. sets a high bar, making it arguably the best extraction technology available as of now.

On the other side, the Delonghi Dinamica, while capable of producing high-quality espresso with robust strength, sweetness, and a thick layer of crema, presented one minor hiccup in my experience: the espresso shot was too hot to enjoy immediately. While this might not be a deal-breaker for everyone—after all, a too-hot espresso can cool down—it could impact those who are particular about enjoying their espresso at a specific temperature right after brewing.

Milk system

Tie!

Both the Delonghi Dinamica vs Jura ENA 8 come equipped with an automatic milk foaming system, a boon for anyone who relishes milk-based espresso drinks like lattes and cappuccinos. With one-touch convenience, these machines make it possible for even novices to concoct cafe-quality beverages right from their kitchen. Yet, despite these similarities, the two diverge in ways that may influence your ultimate choice.

The Delonghi Dinamica takes milk texture to the next level by offering three distinct settings, a feature that’s somewhat rare among fully automatic coffee machines. Its exclusive Crema Latte system employs two separate hydraulic systems and precise electronic control to yield a thick, long-lasting milk foam that’s appropriately warm for your drink. The result is a nuanced milk texture that can be personalized to suit your preferences, adding an extra layer of sophistication to your home coffee experience.

Additionally, the machine comes with a removable milk bottle that can be conveniently stored in the refrigerator, keeping your milk fresh and ready for the next brew. Cleaning the bottle is a breeze, as it can be rinsed under running water or placed in a dishwasher for a more thorough cleanse.

Jura ENA 8 - Cleaning Milk Frother
Jura ENA 8 – Cleaning Milk Frother

The Jura ENA 8, although offering a straightforward and user-friendly milk system setup, presents a couple of challenges. The most notable is the milk temperature. In my tests, the milk foam that the ENA 8 produced was consistently less hot than desired, even after preheating the cup.

While the consistency of the foam was commendable, the lukewarm temperature of the milk was a letdown. Also, the ENA 8 lacks a designated milk container, meaning you’ll have to source your own milk storage solution. This could be a drawback for those who value a streamlined, all-in-one system.

With automatic coffee machines, the ability to provide pre-programmed beverage options is appreciated. It makes it easy for users to choose the right drink and still meet the stability and deliciousness requirements, regardless of whether they are newbies or not.

When comparing Delonghi Dinamica vs Jura ENA 8, Dinamica offers 18 different drinks. On the other hand, the ENA 8 comes with 10 different preset drinks.

Delonghi Dinamica - TrueBrew Ice Coffee Performance
Delonghi Dinamica – True Brew Iced Coffee Performance

Overall, Delonghi Dinamica offers more special features than its competitors. It is suitable to satisfy different preferences in your family or even in an office environment. Another function that I quite like about Dinamica is “Truebrew Over Ice”. It doesn’t actually make cold espresso. Instead, it infuses and extracts espresso at a lower temperature, creating a room-temperature beverage.

Water tank and bean hopper

Jura ENA 8Delonghi Dinamica
Water tank capacity1.1 liter1.8 liter
Bean Hopper0.13 liter0.37 liter

The 1.8-liter Dinamica water tank and the capacity of the bean hopper (0.37 liter) are enough for household use without needing to be filled frequently, while the cylindrical water tank (1.1 liters) and the grain hopper of the ENA 8 are too small (1.1 liters). Both are designed to be easily disassembled, so filling them with clean water is a breeze.

Fortunately, both the DeLonghi Dinamica vs Jura ENA 8 have the option of using a water filter to prevent unwanted impurities from building up inside the machine. Of course, you’ll need to set aside a modest budget for periodic replacements, usually once a month or two.

Weight20.94 lbs20.7 lbs

When placing these machines on the counter, one of the first things I noticed was their compact size. My house has limited counter space, so their size is perfect.

Delonghi Dinamica is a little heavier than Jura ENA 8. However, for me personally, the weight of the machine is not very important because it is fixed on the kitchen counter. Unless you need to move these machines frequently, weight matters.

Utilities

Tie!

The Jura ENA 8 has physical buttons on either side of a high-resolution TFT color display. It doesn’t have a touchscreen, but the dedicated buttons for each drink and the intuitive layout make it easy to interact with the machine. This design lends itself to long-term durability, as mechanical buttons often outlast touchscreen systems. The straightforward layout also aids in accessing cleaning cycles and maintenance features, making routine upkeep less daunting.

Delonghi Dinamica has LCD Screen display

The Delonghi Dinamica, in contrast, offers a modern flair with its LCD display screen and button-based control panel. The text on the display is easy to read, and the menus are simple to navigate. Adjusting settings, including the strength of your coffee, is a breeze. The button-centric interface also facilitates easy access to cleaning and maintenance features, making the Dinamica as user-friendly as it is stylish. If a responsive, tech-forward interface is what you’re after, the Dinamica stands out in this regard.

Cleaning & Maintenance

Tie!

In terms of cleaning and maintenance, both the Delonghi Dinamica vs Jura ENA 8 make the user’s life considerably easier with a range of features designed for straightforward upkeep. Consistent maintenance is a non-negotiable aspect of espresso machine ownership, and fortunately, both machines come equipped with programs for automatic milk system cleaning after each use. This feature saves time and minimizes the potential for milk residues, which can impair performance and flavor over time.

Moreover, critical components such as the milk jug, drip tray, waste container, and brewing group are fully removable in both models, facilitating easy emptying and cleaning. This modular design makes it convenient for the user to keep the machine in optimal condition without having to undertake a cumbersome cleaning process.

Descaling is another crucial aspect of coffee machine maintenance, and here, too, both machines are user-friendly. They come with descaling solutions and automated cycles for this purpose. Both the Dinamica and ENA 8 have digital displays that notify you when it’s time to descale, taking the guesswork out of this necessary task. The option to install a water filter further extends the time between descaling cycles, an added benefit for those who’d prefer to minimize the frequency of this procedure.

The digital displays on both machines not only serve the function of drink customization and selection but also act as crucial aids in machine maintenance. They provide timely reminders for cleaning and descaling and guide you through these processes step-by-step, ensuring you can keep your machine in peak condition with minimal fuss.
