Check out my verdict on the debate of Delonghi Magnifica S vs Dinamica. These 2 machines have decent brewing features, but there is only one true winner in my head after testing them: Delonghi Dinamica.

The Dinamica line has impressed me throughout my entire experience with this machine. It has a very straightforward and effective design with quick one-touch recipes for espresso, long coffee, iced coffee, and Americano. Its grinder functions smoothly, and I have never had to question its balanced and delicious espresso. If you are a fan of cappuccino, the powerful steam wand will satisfy your coffee preference. I highly recommend this mid-range machine for both beginners and intermediates.

On the other hand, Delonghi Magnifica S is a simplistic espresso machine that focuses solely on…espresso. The flavor is very robust and balanced at the same time. So if you are a true coffee mogul, I believe this model will meet your needs to a certain level. However, its milk doesn’t impress me that much due to the lacking of the microfoam department.

Delonghi Magnifica S vs Dinamica: Differences

Delonghi Dinamica wins 4 – 0 against Magnifica S, and they tie in the dosing and tamping aspect. Check out how Dinamica excels brutally while Magnifica S struggles and fails to earn a point in espresso making from my experience.

Espresso flavor

Winner: Delonghi Dinamica

These machines are for you if you want balanced espresso with a sweeter flavor. I enjoy how well-balanced it tastes, with all the sweet and bitter elements that aren’t overpowering. In addition, the consistency has been great. It’s rare to have a bad coffee experience with Delonghi Magnifica S and Delonghi Dinamica.

Also, the texture of the espresso shots is something worth commenting on. I notice a very velvety espresso consistency, and it always comes with an attractive crema layer that plays around smoothly on my tongue. The crema’s thickness is just right. It’s not too thick to come across as bubbles. This detail also reflects the impeccable pressure work of the machine. Not much air is leaked through the puck.

Grinder

Winner: Delonghi Dinamica

I’ve loved making coffee with Dinamica, and the coffee grinding process has pleased me. It is silent to start. Second, it moves quickly. Finally, it is steady. Mornings have always been quiet with smooth ground for me. Every time I brew, I make sure to inspect the used puck.

To put it bluntly, I am not happy with the grinder on the Magnifica S. Even though I’ve only had the machine for a few months, it looks seriously broken. I didn’t have to do anything at first because it produced even smooth coffee grounds. However, the grinder no longer easily get the beans from the bypass doser. I must thus physically push the beans down.

Milk frother’s performance

Winner: Delonghi Dinamica

In terms of the milk frother, the pair use the same basic Panarello wand, which requires user participation. The Delonghi Dinamica wins this round because the frother on this model has two settings: hot milk and cappuccino, and it can froth microfoam that is airy and dry.

Drinks like latte macchiato or cappuccino need this kind of texture. And the variable wand adjustment allows customers to quickly change the texture of the final milk batch, which is something Magnifica XS can not provide.

The duo performs equally well in foaming warm-hot milk foam. I manufacture hot milk using these devices, with temperatures between 130°F and 140°F. They can also produce excellent microfoam.

Dosing + tamping

It’s a tie!

Judging from the pucks, both machines do a good job automatically dosing and tamping. You can change the dose by adjusting the coffee strength, both models offer. Delonghi Dinamica and Magnifica S tamp the pucks tight as well.

Most of the time, I find them in the same solid form in the container, and this detail tells me that the pressure work and the tamping are decent, which explains why both models can deliver the flavor that both models can deliver is so robust and balanced at the same time.

Utilities

Winner: Delonghi Dinamica

Magnifica S only has four one-touch buttons, two for single espresso and two for a double espresso and espresso lungo. This puts the machine in second place compared to Delonghi Dinamica in the one-touch department. Even though the beverages that Dinamica offers are quite simple, it still boasts an innovative TrueBrew Over Ice technology that extracts delicious coffee for a cup of ice that you prepared beforehand.

On the other hand, Dinamica boasts an elaborate indicator system. It tells when the dreg drawer needs clearing, when the water tank is empty, or when it’s time to descale the device. But Magnifica S doesn’t lack much in this aspect. It also has an indicator for descaling.

Delonghi Magnifica S vs Dinamica: Similarities

Judging from the exterior design, Delonghi Magnifica S and Delonghi Dinamica are very similar. But do you know that they share some functional features as well? I will tell you more about 2 similarities between these two below!

Quick average heat-up time

These machines’ average heat-up time range from 40 to 45 seconds, which is extremely fast considering their innovative heating element. The difference is that Dinamica boasts a dual Thermoblock system while Magnifica S only uses a single Thermoblock for temperature control and performance.

A dual system is always better because it keeps up with the ideal temperature constantly while offering the chance to switch from brew to steam without much pending time.

Water reservoir’s characteristics

Delonghi Magnifica S has a frontal-access water tank

Delonghi Magnifica S and Delonghi Dinamica are both equipped with a 61oz water tank, which is not too small but not too big either. I guess you can say it’s average size. I recommend these machines and their tank size to couples or simply 2-3 users that brew coffee daily. On another note, another aspect I truly like about the water tank is its frontal access. This means I can pull it out to refill water from the front.
