Gaggia Cadorna Prestige vs Jura ENA 8: Both are great automatic bean-to-cup machines, but my preference leans towards the first one for some good reasons.

The Gaggia Cadorna Prestige is not among the best bean-to-cup machines available out there, but it is significantly cheaper than other models with similar features and capabilities. It reliably delivers a delectable espresso shot and whips up cappuccinos that could rival barista-made concoctions. I also loved its user profile function, which is especially useful for households where coffee is a shared passion.

The Jura ENA 8 is one of the entry machines in the Jura lineup, so it’s not full of the latest punches from the Swiss brand. Still, it can still produce great espresso, all thanks to its specialized Pulse Extraction Process. Another noteworthy feature is its ability to be controlled remotely.

Gaggia Cadorna Prestige Vs Jura ENA 8: Differences

The Gaggia Cadorna Prestige triumphs over the Jura ENA 8 with a score of 3-2.  Let’s read to the end of my comparison to decide which one suits you best.

Coffee Flavour

Winner: Tie

Built-in Grinder

Both have a built-in grinder for a hassle-free and seamless transition from bean to cup, freeing you from the chore of sifting through reviews or the expense of a separate grinder. This is particularly advantageous since separate grinders are often expensive and take up extra space on the kitchen countertop.

The Cadorna Prestige boasts a high-quality ceramic flat burr grinder that has a long lifespan and produces a super consistent grind size. Better yet, ceramic doesn’t conduct heat as much as metal, which can burn the beans. So it thereby helps preserve the flavors and aromas in your precious coffee beans.

The Jura ENA 8 has a stainless steel conical burr grinder with Aroma G3 technology, which is faster and quieter than its predecessors. In addition, it is quoted as being able to extract more aroma from the beans thanks to its consistent grinding ability.

To help you dial in the right grind size for the beans you are using or your preferred beverage, the Jura ENA 8 offers 7 grind settings, whereas the Cadorna Prestige is ahead of the game with 10 grind size options. Just like you can only adjust gears on a bicycle while in motion, it’s best to alter the grind setting when the grinder is operating to avoid jams or potential harm.

Gaggia Cadorna Prestige vs Jura ENA 8’s grind settings

To change the grind of the Jura ENA 8, all you need to do is simply turn a knob on top (when the grinder is running, of course). But as for the Cadorna Prestige, the story becomes more complicated: you must align a tool located on the coffee spoon with a small yellow tip inside the bean hopper. Lose that distinct spoon, and you can imagine the hassle that ensues.

Heating System

Each boasts a thermometer fast-heating boiler, which can heat up rapidly to reach the required temperature for brewing espresso or steaming milk in a matter of seconds. So even if they can’t brew and steam at the same time, you can have your favorite drink within a single minute. This is a boon for those who don’t want to wait long for their morning coffee.

Thermometer technology is really a big step forward for traditional boilers. Instead of heating a larger water reservoir, it only boils the on-demand water for each task. That way, it can speed up the heating process and effectively cut down on power consumption. And you guessed it, your espresso is always brewed with completely fresh water, leading to potentially better taste and quality.

However, a dual boiler machine, such as the Saeco Xelsis or Gaggia Babila, is still a better choice for busy settings like coffee shops or self-service bars. It can brew espresso and steam milk simultaneously, reducing the time taken to make milk-based beverages such as lattes and cappuccinos. With each boiler precisely calibrated for its task—one for brewing and another for steaming – you can get consistently impeccable espresso shots and flawlessly frothed milk every time.

Brewing System

These machines both initially wet the coffee grounds with a small amount of hot water for a few seconds before the full-pressure extraction begins. This is called the pre-infusion stage, available on most super-automatic espresso machines.

Pre-infusion makes the grounds bloom, and thereby, most aroma will release when full pressure is applied. It also helps reduce channeling, where water finds the path of least resistance through the grounds, leading to uneven extraction. It would be better if the interval of this stage were adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of coffee beans and preparation styles.

Once the pre-brew phase is over, both extract espresso at a pressure of 15 bars, while the standard pressure level is only about 9 bars. The Jura ENA 8 stands out here with the Pulse Extraction Process (or P.E.P.) – a Jura’s hallmark

Yes, it is another flamboyant name, but basically, this technology involves pulsing hot water through the coffee grounds in short bursts instead of at a steady, continuous pressure. To my mind, this is evolution and innovation in coffee brewing technology. That is why espressos from Jura machines, including the ENA 8, tend to have a richer flavor and heightened aroma.

Milk Frothing System

These bean-to-cup machines froth milk automatically. Now, instead of using hard-earned skills, achieving a creamy cappuccino is as simple as pushing a button and letting the machine work its wonders.

Their automatic milk frothing systems are surely great for these amateur drinkers, but they can’t replicate the latte art only crafted by a barista wielding a traditional steam wand. Also, they can’t match the greater control over milk’s temperature and texture that wand-equipped machines offer.

Gaggia Cadorna Prestige vs Jura ENA 8’s automatic milk frothing systems

The Gaggia Cadorna Prestige’s milk system includes an integrated milk carafe that froths the milk twice before dispensing it to guarantee perfect temperature and texture with the push of a button. It can be detached for deep cleaning or tucked away in the fridge to maintain the milk’s coolness.

As for the Jura ENA 8, its system requires attaching one end of an included tube to the frother and putting the other into a milk holder. To be honest, I wasn’t too impressed with this one. Firstly, rather than including a milk pitcher with the machine, Jura sells it separately as an additional add-on. So unless you have a nice container in your arsenal, you will have to spend extra bucks on their simple glass jug or milk cooler (which can keep milk cold, as its name suggests). Another downside is that adding a milk pitcher takes up more space on your counter.

I found both produced creamy, thick milk foam for an excellent cappuccino, but they never reached velvety, smooth microfoam for a perfect flat white. When creating a latte macchiato, I could fine-tune the gap between foam dispensation and espresso addition. That way, I had a perfect multi-layered drink that was a visual delight in a glass.

Design & Usability

Right off the bat, they are simple but handsome machines that feel well-made and robust. They are definitely not Transformer-style machines, but they are sure to blend in seamlessly with any modern kitchen. I was impressed with the Jura Ena 8’s crystal-inspired cylindrical water reservoir. Oh, it turns out to be constructed from robust plastic. The Cadorna Prestige’s water tank slides out from the front for easy refilling and seamless integration into the front of the machine.

There is a generously sized color TFT display at the front of both that looks elegant and intuitive. The screen on the Cadorna Prestige gains an edge with its larger size and a slight tilt that makes it easier to view. They aren’t touchscreen displays, but I find no reason for discontent since my personal preference leans towards the effective and intuitive nature of buttons.

They are on the lighter end of the weight spectrum and will certainly not look oversized on your counter. They’re quite heavy, but that doesn’t matter since getting each one into place is a one-time endeavor unless you prefer to redecorate your kitchen on a regular basis.

Both have a quite long list of coffee-shop quality beverages that are brewed one touch with fresh ground coffee. When your fresh bean supply dwindles and the need for decaffeinated coffee arises, you can use pre-ground coffee via their bypass doser. Craving a hot cup of tea? Just use the hot water function for a quick brew.

You can also customize your favorite beverages with various settings, including coffee strength, brewing temperature, volume of milk froth, and shot length. Then you can save your ultimate recipes for the next one-touch preparation.

The Gaggia Cadorna Prestige features four user profiles. So once you have created something that will become your daily drink, you can save it without worrying about another drinker accidentally changing it. I believe this feature is a peacemaker to prevent arguments in a coffee-loving household.

Both feature a height-adjustable coffee dispensing spout assembly, which can be raised the highest level to fit a taller glass for latte macchiato or go all the way down to minimize splashes and preserve the visually appealing crema layer when preparing espresso.

The Cadorna Prestige takes the lead here with its ability to brew two cups of coffee at once, ensuring fewer people have to wait for their drinks on those busy mornings. This could be a great convenience for households or workplaces with high coffee consumption. The Jura ENA 8 is one of the few Jura super automatics that lacks this nifty feature since, of course, it has a single dispensing spigot.

Water Reservoir & Bean Hopper

Their water containers aren’t particularly large, but I think a single refill per day is enough for home use. They also have the option to use a water filter (Intenza+ filter for Gaggia Cadorna Prestige and Clearyl smart mini water filter for Jura ENA 8) to minimize limescale buildup and dramatically improve the quality of your espresso.

Using a water filter is optional, but I always recommend it unless you are using bottled or pre-filtered water. There is a modest recurring expense associated with filter replacement. But after all, high-quality water is the key to getting great-tasting coffee, wouldn’t you agree?

Their bean hoppers both feature an aroma-preservation top lid. In case you are wondering, it is designed to create an airtight seal, effectively protecting the coffee beans from exposure to air, moisture, and other external elements that can degrade the beans’ quality over time. That way, the aroma and flavor of the coffee beans are preserved for a longer duration.

Cleaning & Maintenance

Winner: Gaggia Cadorna Prestige

The Cadorna Prestige has my vote here since it has a removable brew group, which can be easily detached via a compartment on the side for cleaning under the tap. Meanwhile, the Jura ENA 8 has a built-in brew unit that relies on an automatic cleaning cycle. Don’t get me wrong! I fully trust Jura’s automatic function. But this essential part is where all the action happens, so I love the ability to access it directly to take care of it manually.

In addition, there are a number of other removable parts that need to be manually rinsed or emptied daily, including the drip tray, the coffee grounds container, and the water tank. Don’t forget to give the exterior a good wipe to purge all the unwanted splashes.

The rest, including descaling the machine and cleaning the milk system, is fully automatic, and the machine will prompt you when this is due. Then just follow a step-by-step guide pop up on the screen to get the job done. You should also rinse the Cadorna Prestige removable milk carafe underwater every two to three days.

Utilities & Other Features

Winner: Jura ENA 8

Remote Control

The Jura ENA 8 can be connected to your smartphone or even iWatch via the J.O.E. app for remote brewing. You can effortlessly select your desired beverage, tweak settings, and set the espresso-making process in motion right from your bed or sofa. but you will need to acquire the Jura smart connect separately to activate this capability.

Auto Off

Both can be programmed to go off after an interval of non-use automatically. This automatic shutoff feature can enhance safety, energy efficiency, user convenience, and extend the appliance’s life. This feature is particularly beneficial for individuals who might be busy or tend to forget to turn off appliances in their daily routines.
