Jura E6 vs ENA 8 Comparison: Which Is Better Between Two Espresso Machines With The Same Price Point?

I get commissions for purchases made through links in this post. Read more

In the debate between two espresso machines with the same price point, the Jura E6 vs. ENA 8, I will review and compare some differences between the two to demonstrate why the Jura ENA 8 should be the winner.

The ENA 8 gives you more options, not just in the pre-programmed coffee drinks but also in brewing strength, temperature, and the ability to use pre-ground coffee. The ENA 8 is an excellent choice for you if you want something that is both more options and more compact than other similar products on the market.

The Jura E6 has fewer features than its counterpart, but it maintains the same high level of brewing technology. Because of this, it is an intriguing alternative for people willing to compromise some degree of customization in exchange for high-quality brewing technology.

Jura E6 vs ENA 8: Differences

The Jura ENA 8 beats the E6 by a score of 4-1. It consistently extracts a rich flavor and aroma. It has a better level of programmability, more milk-based drinks, a bypass doser for when you use pre-ground coffee, and more preset coffee drinks.

1. Coffee Flavor & Brewing Techniques

The Winner: Jura ENA 8

Coffee Flavor

No matter how strong and robust you want your espresso to taste, both these machines are ready to brew at the touch of a button. But the Jura ENA 8 better adapts to your preferences by extracting a robust flavor and aroma from any coffee beans.

Being the cheaper one, the Jura E6 isn’t quite as consistent as the ENA 8. When you brew a double espresso shot, the E6’s default settings are adjusted to provide a less potent beverage. It doubles the volume of a single shot, which could make the espresso taste a bit too watery. Therefore, the ENA 8 is an excellent choice if you want truly smooth espresso.

Preset Coffee Drinks

Jura E6 comes with six different coffee drinks
Jura E6 comes with six different coffee drinks

Comparing the Jura E6 to the ENA 8, the E6 can make 6 different preset coffee drinks. On the other hand, there are 10 different preset drinks in the ENA 8.

The Espresso Doppio, Latte Macchiato, and Flat White beverages are exclusive to the ENA 8 and not available in the E6. Meanwhile, both coffee machines can make coffee, cappuccino, and espresso quickly and efficiently.

You can see that the E6 comes equipped with a milk frother; nevertheless, the only milk-based beverage it can make is the cappuccino. My wife does like some milk-based drinks like lattes and flat white. Consequently, given these circumstances, the Jura ENA 8 is my best choice.

2. Dose Control

The Winner: It’s a Tie!

Programmability

I always prefer a machine that can adjust the strength, temperature, and volume of coffee. And if you’re picky about your espresso like I am, it’s easier to do when you have more levels of programmability. Because the preferences of espresso drinkers vary greatly and are constantly evolving.

In terms of programmable functions, the ENA 8 is also better than the E6. The programmability of the Jura ENA 8 can be fine-tuned to more levels than that of the Jura E6. Even though there isn’t a huge difference, the ENA 8 works like an updated model.

Beginning with the coffee strength adjustments, the E6 has 8 different levels of intensity for you to choose from. You have 2 different options for brewing temperature, but there is no mention of the hot water temperature adjustments that the ENA 8 has. On the ENA 8, you can select from 10 different levels of coffee strength, as well as 3 different levels of brewing temperature and 3 different levels of hot water temperature.

Dosage

The great thing about automatic devices is that you won’t have to worry about administering the correct dosage because these machines do this for you.

Compared to the ENA 8, the Jura E6 works better because it always gives out between 5 and 16 grams of dose per shot, no matter what the recipe is. On the other hand, the Jura ENA 8 takes 6–10 grams per shot. However, the 5–16 grams of the E6 dosage are the perfect amount to use in a portafilter to get the most out of the flavors and aromas.

Coffee Spout

Even though it can seem small, ensuring that you have the right number of spouts to meet your requirements is important.

The Jura E6 has a dual coffee spout for brewing 2 shots of espresso simultaneously. That is one feature I appreciate about this machine. On the ENA 8, you’ll find a single coffee spout designed to make only one shot at a time, which may disappoint some people.

Bypass Doser

If you are looking for a bypass doser for pre-ground coffee, the Jura ENA 8 is the only model that offers it. This feature is especially helpful if you want to brew decaf drinks or if you want to try a different pre-ground espresso. This feature is not available on the Jura E6.

3. Cleaning & Maintenance

The Winner: Jura ENA 8

Capacity

There is a significant difference in the level of maintenance required depending on whether the coffee maker’s water tank and bean hopper are compact or spacious. On top of that, the Jura E6 needs a lot of space on the kitchen counter.

It has a water capacity of 1.8 liters and a bean capacity of 9.8 ounces. Large-capacity water storage implies fewer interruptions for refills. The same holds true for the bean hopper, which features a large capacity that is quite practical.

Compared to the Jura E6, the Jura ENA 8 has a water reservoir of 1 liter and a bean hopper of 4.4 ounces, and it is also more compact. It’s not too big, so you can move it without worrying about anything breaking or spilling out.

The only con of a small capacity is that you must fill up the water tank more often. And don’t add the coffee beans until it’s time to make coffee. This will keep the coffee fresh.

Another difference is that the E5’s coffee grounds container can hold up to 16 used coffee pucks, while the ENA 8 holds 10.

4. Utilities

The Winner: Jura ENA 8

Cup Clearance

The cup clearance on the ENA 8 is higher than on the E6. The spout of the Jura E6 has a range of adjustments that goes from 2.5 inches to 4.5 inches. And the range for the ENA 8’s is from 2.2 to 5.4 inches.

For example, I always prefer that the top of my latte be covered in a layer of dense milk foam. Therefore, I need to use a taller cup to prevent this milk layer from spilling out. And at this juncture, Jura Ena 8 has demonstrated that it has the upper hand.

Jura E6 vs ENA 8: Similarities

Both of these espresso machines are compatible with the J.O.E. app. You can control your espresso machine from your smartphone or tablet.

The E6 and ENA 8 machines do their own automated rinsing, cleaning, and descaling, so you won’t have to worry about spending as much time maintaining them as you would with other machines.

For grinding coffee beans, because of the incredible Aroma G3 grinder that comes standard on both the E6 and the ENA 8, your grinding experience won’t be only smooth but also very silent.

These two machines share the same heating system, which is referred to as the single boiler thermoblock technology.

Both machines make use of the exceptional water filter and cleaning solutions developed by Jura. This results in a reduction in the cost of maintenance and ensures that the operation will run smoothly and effectively for an extremely long time.

In addition, they have a low-energy mode with an automatic shut-off feature and self-rinsing cycles for daily maintenance.
