It’s not easy to choose a mid-range espresso machine because the price is noticeably higher than budget models, while there are so many more brewing features to consider. So if you are looking for one, check out my comparison for Gaggia Accademia vs Jura E6.
For me, the only winner is Jura E6. Despite having slightly fewer presets, I still find this model more worthy of its price tag. It brews exceptionally rich espresso, and its milk carafe doesn’t fail in delivering hot milk foam for various presets like cappuccino or latte macchiato. Also, its 64oz water tank lasts longer due to moderate water usage. I highly recommend this affordable mid-range machine!
As for Gaggia Accademia, it’s not among my favorite espresso machines, let’s say. But there are some good features about it: the device can brew tasty espresso, it has dual milk frothers, and it boasts a proper group of one-touch beverages.

Gaggia Accademia vs Jura E6: Differences
Jura E6 wins 3-0 and ties once against Gaggia Accademia. It boasts more variable espresso strength settings, hot and airy milk foam, and easy cleaning. It’s easy to clean Jura’s machines in general, but this one is exceptionally effortless to maintain.
Espresso extraction
Winner: Jura E6
With its superior espresso brewing technology, the Jura E6 wins the round. Jura E6’s 15-bar pump pressure and Pulse Extraction Technology offer excellent espresso flavor for various espresso beans. It produces a superb shot of espresso with a thick layer of crema on top, regardless of the kind of espresso beans you use. With its Thermoblock, it heats water up to the right temperature for optimum extraction. I have been enjoying tasty coffee with this bad boy.

The device also boasts 8 adjustable espresso coffee strengths against Gaggia Accademia’s humble 3 settings. Besides that, this pair comes with an akin set of programmable features, like espresso temperature or milk volume.
Milk frother
Tie
Gaggia Accademia has two distinct milk frothers. The first is the manually-operated steam wand, which you may use to produce a creamy pitcher of milk foam. The second is the milk carafe, which froths milk automatically according to the beverage you choose and is able to produce microfoam for latte macchiato, one of the recipes that require the airiest milk foam possible. With Gaggia Accademia, I can enjoy a variable frothing experience.
However, it’s unfortunate that this model isn’t gifted at making steamed milk hot. I struggle a lot trying to change the milk texture pre-frothing to find out the best milk temperature that works with the device. But I never succeed in bringing the foam’s temp higher than 135°F.
Jura E6, on the other hand, comes with a single milk frother, which is an internal milk circuit that works with any external milk container to froth foam. And so far, I’m satisfied with how consistent it is at making velvety milk foam without me having to interfere. And the temperature is top-notch as well. Thus, your drinks will come out hot and steaming and not cool down by lukewarm milk foam.

Cleaning
Winner: Jura E6
Both machines are designed with the auto-purge function to cleanse the system briefly before and after each use. This helps keeps the group head and the milk circuit clean at all times, avoiding bacteria formation.
The difference is that Jura E6’s fixed brewing circuit can be cleaned more thoroughly with a single cleaning tablet. All I have to do is bypass the tablet and run the deep cleaning cycle. The device handles the rest with ease.
As for Gaggia Accademia, it has a removable brew group that needs to get under the water tap once every 2 weeks for more thorough cleaning. And then, users still have to run a cleaning cycle with a special solution to wash the entire brew path.
Water tank’s capacity and actual lasting timespan
Winner: Jura E6
Jura E6 has a 64 oz water tank, and Gaggia Accademia has a 54 oz one. Since they are equipped with similar reservoir capacity, I expected them to last more or less the same timespan, with Jura E6 excelling slightly.
Unlike my expectation, Jura E6’s water tank gives Gaggia Accademia a run for its money. Since the latter device leaks and auto-rinses too much (cons of having 2 milk frothers), the 54oz water tank doesn’t last much, and the drip tray needs constant clearing. I have to dump it out every day to avoid spilling.
Gaggia Accademia vs Jura E6: Similarities

Grinder’s operation
Jura E6 comes with an AromaG3 grinder, and Gaggia Accademia is equipped with a ceramic burr grinder. Basically, they are the same kind with similar operations. I am Ralph Mason and I am a passionate coffee drinker. I worked as a barista for a few years and since 2012 I have been trying to convince as many people as possible of good coffee.
I started writing on the barista blog on RepublikCoffeeBar in 2018. It was a pure hobby site and I tested coffee products like coffee machines, beans, mug, and other accessories. After the first year, my blog is becoming a well-known coffee site with about 100 thousand visits per month.
In 2019 I decided to focus on RepublikCoffeeBar only. I became a full-time coffee blogger and was declared crazy by many.
