A super-automatic espresso machine is always a good choice for a convenient brewing experience. So which super-automatic wins between Jura E6 vs Saeco Xelsis? My final winner is Jura E6.

Thanks to its generally consistent and well-rounded espresso extraction, Jura E6 never fails to provide an excellent cup in the morning. The design makes refilling simple, the bean grinder operates quietly, and the milk foam quality has constantly been good. Any homeowner should buy this device.

Regarding Saeco Xelsis, I’m pleased with the flavorful espresso and excellent milk foam. Additionally, the design is small-space friendly. The functionality as a whole is good, but there are a few small issues that I would like to avoid, which I’ll mention with more information below.

Jura E6 vs Saeco Xelsis: Differences

In the debate of differences, Jura E6 wins 4-1 against Saeco Xelsis. The device may not offer a 100% hands-free brewing experience like Saeco Xelsis, but most of its features, from grinder to milk system, work with higher stability and performs better.

Grinder’s design and performance

Winner: Jura E6

Jura E6’s grinder is called Aroma G3, a quiet modern technology from Jura. The Aroma G3 is a “promotional” name that Jura puts on their recent grinders, but you can view it as ceramic conical burr grinders. Regarding their performance, I’m impressed by their agility and consistency.

It takes less than 1s for Jura E6 to grind enough beans for a single espresso. The noise level also is very low. In the end, there is nothing bad I can say about Jura E6’s Aroma G3 grinder.

As for Saeco Incanto, it has been grinding even batches of coffee beans for me as well. However, the grinder is flat and is more susceptible to leftovers and jams, which requires close attention and frequent maintenance from users to avoid consequences.

Heating system and espresso flavor

Tie

Jura E6 and Saeco Xelsis heat up in about 5 minutes with their single Thermoblock (minimum requirement), but I always recommend leaving the device on for about 15 minutes prior to brewing time. When I give them enough warm-up time, as I just suggested, the temperature of the drinks easily varies from 175 to 185°F, which is hot and perfect for enjoying.

Regarding espresso quality, both devices are intended to extract espressos that are smooth, nutty, and well-balanced in flavor. In addition, I increase the coffee’s strength and pound the coffee grounds finer to achieve a stronger flavor.

The crema quality isn’t all that different, but I can tell they work well in this situation. Although the layers aren’t excessively thick to give the impression that the crema is foam, they do give espressos a thicker, creamier mouthfeel.

Stability in daily operation

Winner: Jura E6

Jura E6 is much more stable in terms of its alert system. Moreover, both machines come with various clean/ descale or empty water tank indicators. And Jura E6 functions very smoothly in this aspect.

As for Saeco Xelsis’s dreg drawer alert has been bothering me too much to ignore. At first, it was working perfectly and stably. Then, the device notified me when its time to empty the used pucks, and the alert disappeared when the drawer was in place. Now, the alert still keeps blinking even when I have successfully cleaned and put the tray in place.

Milk system and milk foam

Winner: Jura E6

Both the Jura E6 and Saeco Xelsis milk systems have advantages and disadvantages. I’ll explain why.

The good thing about these machines is that they can easily make microfoam for latte macchiato or cappuccino. I have tested their many one-touch beverages that involve milk frothing. And the texture of the milk I get from the devices is always authentic to the original recipe.

Regarding the milk frother’s operation, Saeco Xelsis does a poor job. The system splashes water out first, then milk foam follows. And finally, the machine gives a few more short bursts of water when it finishes with milk. So I don’t enjoy the cleaning afterward.

For the Jura E6 to dispense milk into the cup, I have to crank the milk dial manually. It’s also my job to switch the knob manually so that espresso can come out of the distributary mouth. So the process involves a lot of manual interference.

Cleaning & Maintain

Tie

Cleaning both models is not that difficult. They have numerous cleaning cycles to keep the system fresh at all times. In addition, I appreciate that Xelsis includes a cycle called HygieClean that uses high-pressure water to clean the milk path. Thus, the flavor of milk and espresso is consistently unadulterated and pure.

Jura E8 doesn’t even need the parts to be taken apart. I just need to place a cleaning tablet in the dispenser. Indeed, this model doesn’t have a bypass doser for preground, where we usually drop the pills. On top of the machine is a container for cleaning tablets, so you don’t need to worry.

Jura E6 vs Saeco Xelsis: Similarities

The programmability of the coffee recipes is what caught my attention, alongside the drip tray size of Jura E6 and Saeco Xelsis. Check out the similar features of these two models.

Programmable recipes

With Jura E6 and Saeco Xelsis, users can adjust the coffee strength, volume, and temperature. Thanks to these tweaks, users can adjust the coffee flavor however they like. It’s also possible to change the espresso-to-milk ratio. Overall, there is no restriction on these devices’ programmability.

Small drip tray

The drip trays on Jura E6 and Saeco Xelsis are a tad small, and there is no denying it. The good thing is that the drip trays on these machines come with a sensor that notifies users when the water level is too high. This allows users to keep up with the real-time state of the drip trays, thus cleaning them in time without having to check them manually.
