Delonghi vs Breville Nespresso Vertuoline contest pits the two most practical, least expensive, and most effective designs against one another. So which one walks away with the crown?

I pick the Delonghi Nespresso Vertuo as the winner. This machine has an outstanding 54oz water tank and has good temperature control. Its espresso tastes nutty and very rich. This model, which also has an auto shut-off feature, is perfect for novices who like to make good espresso shots quickly.

The Breville Nespresso Vertuoline features a 15-second heat-up time as well as similar conveniences to the Delonghi, such as auto shut-off and descaling warning. But, it lacks a large enough water tank, and occasionally you need to warm the cup for better espresso flavor and temperature.

Delonghi vs Breville Nespresso Vertuoline: Differences

Delonghi Nespresso Vertuo wins 2-1 and ties once against Breville Vertuo. Despite being in the same product line, Delonghi succeeds in brewing hotter cups and keeping water from leaking out of the water tank’s trajectory. There are so many other small details that you need to know below!

Water Tank

Tie

Delonghi Nespresso Vertuo has a larger water tank. We are looking at both versions because they are rather small, but the 54oz model is big enough for 1-2 individuals.

The 40oz water tank of the Breville model. Is it small? Yes. Can I use it for my own purposes? Yes, again. Both types are excellent for solo users or couples, as I’ve already mentioned. In addition, I suggest both gadgets if you and a buddy share an apartment or studio since they would look excellent on a small kitchen island.

On the other hand, Breville has no leaking problem, while Delonghi seems to struggle a bit in this aspect. I have spotted the water tank leaking several times over my kitchen stand. Since it’s an external water tank, leaking is not that uncommon. Of course, this is a partial problem for the entire product line. I see a few users having the same issue as I do with the Delonghi Vertuo.

Heat-up Time

Winner: Breville Nespresso Vertuo

We all agree that waiting for any electrical gear to start up, including coffee makers, is not enjoyable. Fortunately, both models have quick heat-up times of around 25 seconds.

Since Breville prepares the machine’s temperature in just 15 seconds, it is the clear victor in this regard. I believe it is sensible to utilize this gadget for those who lead hectic lives with no second to waste.

The Delonghi heats up in 25 seconds, making it somewhat slower than the previous generation. Given that there isn’t much difference and the model works better for brewing, it is not a significant negative for this model. But it’s a point worth pointing out.

Drinks’ temperature

Winner: Delonghi Nespresso Vertuo

Delonghi tends to deliver hotter cups after the same amount of start-up time. This is my conclusion after testing both models’ temperature performance after leaving them both on for 25s to meet the self-priming duration requirement of both Delonghi and Breville Vertuo.

So, Breville Nespresso Vertuo’s coffee didn’t come out as hot as I would have liked. I looked into it, and some other users encountered the same issue.

Of course, the temperature of Breville Vertuo’s espresso can be improved if I leave the device on slightly longer. I want to stress that only some machines in this line have the same problem and that it is a fixable one. Warm the cup before brewing or pre-heat the machine to prevent lukewarm coffee. If you acquire a device with such a problem, doing so will assist you in achieving the correct coffee temperature.

Espresso extraction

Winner: Delonghi Nespresso Vertuo

Flavor-wise, I’m satisfied with what these machines have to offer. Their Centrifusion technology does a good job at extracting rich and nuanced cups. As a result, there is a touch of floral aroma to the drinks. It’s very noticeable when I brew espresso instead of lungo where the concentration is better.

But, Breville sometimes delivers too thick of a layer of coffee crema that, instead of impressing me, makes me question the logic of the Centrifusion. It’s not common, but sometimes the layer can be 3-4cm (about 1.5 inches) thick.

Delonghi vs Breville Nespresso Vertuoline: Similarities

Check out these major similarities on how the 2 brands design the same Vertuo line.

Adjustable cup support

The cup supports on both machines are attached to a flexible system that allows users to adjust the distance of the cup supports from the group head manually. Thanks to that, we can use both tall and short cups without worrying about splashing or overfilling. There are few Nespresso machines that feature this convenient function.

Convenient descale alert

These models come with a descaling alert on their dial plate interface. The dia is backlit, and if you see the light goes half red and half green, it’s time to descale the machines. These are the 2 Nespresso machines with a genuinely convenient descale alert that I have tested. Other Nespresso devices will depend on the in-app connection to tell users when to descale. But luckily, it’s not the case with this pair.
