I easily picked a winner in the Delonghi Nespresso Pixie vs Vertuo debate. Although Pixie is also a very potent capsule machine, the Breville Nespresso Vertuo is my favorite choice for the round.
The Breville Nespresso Vertuo includes a 40 oz water tank, which is substantially bigger than the other equipment and can make up to 5 different cup sizes. The quality of each capsule significantly influences the coffee flavor, but overall I like how strong, well-rounded, and refreshing it is. The operation is also quite calm. Anyone with a busy schedule who wants quick coffee should give it some thought.
The least noisy espresso maker is the Delonghi Nespresso Pixie, which came in second. Pixie’s diminutive size demonstrates that it is ideal for lone users. But it doesn’t have the useful characteristics I seek, unlike the model above.

Nespresso Pixie vs Vertuo: Differences
Breville Nespresso Vertuo wins 3-1 and ties once against Pixie. In addition, it boasts a much larger water tank that requires less frequent refills and easy maintenance. I have the full details below!
Heating system
Winner: Delonghi Nespresso Pixie
Thermoblock technology is used in both versions, which I adore because it quickly heats water for effective use. But what surprises me is how quickly Vertuo warms up despite having a larger water tank. The time it takes to prepare for brewing is only 15 to 20 seconds.
Pixie takes a little longer—between 25 and 30 seconds. So even though there isn’t much of a difference, I still want to address that.
But Pixie does a better job when it comes to making hot espressos. My experience has shown that it consistently produces steaming espresso cups. Regarding Vertuo, the coffee’s temperature is slightly lower.
Do you like your coffee hot or warm? The response will determine your optimal espresso maker. I personally love hot coffee since I can easily enjoy it.
Brewing technique
Tie
The Breville Vertuo extracts espressos using CENTRIFUSION technology, which makes a big difference in this instance. Using this technology, the capsules spin quickly as the coffee grounds gradually drain their flavor.
The Breville Pixie uses a 19-bar pump pressure mechanism to extract from and pierce the capsules with pressure.
The flavor of the coffee is unmistakably influenced by how it is brewed. With Vertuo, the taste is softer and more mellow, but the strength is unaffected. On the other hand, the flavor of Pixie is clearly on the bolder side and has a touch of bitterness.
Cleaning & Maintainance
Winner: Breville Nespresso Vertuo
Technically, cleaning capsule machines are the same. For it, we require cleaning capsules, which we use in the same manner as regular coffee capsules.
I like Vertuo’s cleaning feature better because it offers a warning that lets me know when the machine must be descaled. When we want to ensure that each brewing session produces quality coffee, the feature is really helpful because we don’t have to guess whether the gadget needs descaling or not.
On the other hand, Pixie has its own strength in maintenance as well. The device boasts an indicator light system that alerts users when the water level in the tank is too low.
Design & Material
Winner: Breville Nespresso Vertuo
I choose the Breville Nespresso Vertuo because of its straightforward design, which allows me to easily insert the capsules by simply opening the capsule slot. On the other hand, the Breville Nespresso Pixie has a lever that I must lift to open and down to close the capsule slot. I must smuggle my hand through the lever when it’s raised to reach the capsule slot. I have never been fond of lever design in Nespresso machines.
Water tank size
Winner: Breville Nespresso Vertuo
Breville Nespresso Vertuo is equipped with a 40oz water reservoir, while Delonghi Nespresso Pixie only comes with a 23.7 oz tank. There is no doubt that the 40oz tank is much more convenient in the long run, especially when there is more than 1-2 coffee drinkers in your household. I highly recommend Vertuo because of its larger tank size, among other benefits regarding cleaning and espresso flavor.
Nespresso Pixie vs Vertuo: Similarities
Allow me to comment on the 2 major similarities between Nespresso Pixie and Vertuo: the adjustable coffee volume and the flow stop function.
Adjustable coffee volume
Both Pixie and Vertuo allow users to adjust the coffee volume, which directly affects the strength of the drinks. From the first time you adjust the volume, the devices will remember it for future brews unless you decide to alter it again. Just hold the recipe button that you wish to change the volume of, and the devices will brew. Stop the dispensing when you are satisfied with the volume of the drink, and the intuitive system will memorize it.
Flow stop
Flow-stop is a feature that we usually find in fully-automatic machines. Vertuo and Pixie can do the same thing. The devices know when to stop dispensing according to how we program them. Of course, no sensor can detect when the drinks are about to overflow. But it’s nice being able to enjoy the customizable volume and flow-stop feature.
