Are you looking for a Nespresso machine? Take my review on the debate of Delonghi Nespresso Pixie vs Citiz, then! After comparing the most minute differences between them, Citiz is the product line that convinces me more.
Delonghi Nespresso Citiz is equipped with a 30.4 oz water tank, slightly bigger than that of Pixie. The devices use the 19-bar pump to extract robust and aromatic espresso consistently. I also like its simple interface with 2 buttons for espresso and espresso lungo, both customizable for more or less volume!
As for Delonghi Nespresso Pixie, espresso flavor also is its biggest strength. The device even boasts a light indicator that tells when the water tank needs refilling. Unfortunately, the Pixie loses to the Citiz due to its manual lever for opening the capsule slot, which I personally don’t like, and a smaller water tank.

Delonghi Nespresso Citiz wins 4 – 1 against Pixie. It’s much better designed with its simple interface and larger water reservoir. And it also brews hot and delicious espresso. Check out my detailed review below!
Espresso flavor
Tie
With 19-bar pump pressure that can wring out every last essence of authentic espresso flavor, Citiz and Pixie never fail to make me a bold and rich espresso. In addition, they are very stable and consistent. It’s hard to get a bad coffee day when I have this efficient pair.
The downside is that they don’t have their own integrated milk system for other milk-based recipes, which requires me to purchase an external one. However, with Citiz, I got a good deal and bought it alongside the Aeroccino 3 for a very good price.
Water tank size
Winner: Delonghi Nespresso Citiz
A 24-ounce water reservoir is included with the Delonghi Nespresso Pixie. It can hold up to three full cups of coffee, making it a convenient size. The volume of a single espresso shot is 2 fluid ounces. Therefore, you can make espresso in various sizes and get at least 8 to 10 shots out of each refill.
Contrarily, the Delonghi Nespresso Citiz has a 34-ounce water tank. After three to five more espresso shots than the Pixie, the water tank needs to be refilled. The Citiz is unquestionably a better choice for someone who despises having to restock and perform maintenance.
Interface
Winner: Delonghi Nespresso Citiz
Citiz’s interface is sleek and simple. It consists of 2 buttons only, and the capsule compartment is straightforward. When I open the capsule compartment’s lid, it will automatically dispose of any leftover used capsules. Overall, it’s clean and quick.
As for Pixie, the design takes a turn with the manual lever. To open the new capsule container, we must pull the level up to insert it into the slot. The lever will naturally stand in the way of the capsule gate and requires users to wiggle the capsule in. Personally, I don’t like how complicated Delonghi makes this model, as fun as they are trying to make it out to be.
Aeroccino milk frother
Winner: Delonghi Nespresso Citiz
As you can see, the Delonghi Nespresso Citiz costs $10 more than the Pixie. On the other hand, the Aeroccino frother on the Nespresso Citiz makes up for the fact that both single-serve pod machines have the same outward appearance.
Using the Citiz pod machine, you can prepare creamy lattes and cappuccinos. You are not required to purchase a separate milk frother, which would likely cost between $35 and $50. When purchased separately, Aeroccino costs roughly $100.
If you want to purchase a milk frother, you can save $100 if you get the Delonghi Nespresso Citiz. The single-serve pod machine is the only component of the Delonghi Nespresso Pixie.
Utilities
Tie
Each device has a plus point in this round. For example, with Citiz, we get a flippable cup support for the upper one. This small yet delicate feature ensures that users can use a tall or short cup comfortably without worrying about coffee splashing around.
As for Pixie, it boasts a fun empty-water-tank indicator light. The light is integrated into the machine’s side, turning red when there is too little water left for a cup of espresso.
Delonghi Nespresso Pixie vs Citiz: Similarities
Nespresso machines usually share more similar features than differences, but only some similarities are crucial to mention. Below are 3 aspects that I find most relevant.
Auto shut-off
Delonghi’s Nespresso machines know how to save users energy. With Pixie and Citiz, users can leave the devices on, and they will automatically turn off after 9 minutes. The feature helps save energy and prolongs devices’ lifespan. It can also prevent overheating from being on for too long!
Super-quick heat-up time
Thanks to the efficient Thermoblock heating element and the compact water tank, Citiz, and Pixie don’t take much time to heat up. On average, users only have to wait 25s for the machine to warm up. Of course, leave it on slightly longer before you start brewing so that the drinks come out hot and long-lasting. 1-2 minutes of pending time should be more than enough to ensure hot coffee.
Adjustable coffee volume
An espresso machine that doesn’t offer any form of adjustment isn’t a versatile machine and will cause much discomfort for users. Luckily, Citiz and Pixie don’t miss the mark in this aspect. Being minimalist devices, they offer only 1 customization aspect: the coffee volume. But it’s very impressive that they integrate this feature instead of skipping the customization like with many Nespresso products.
