The Delonghi Nespresso Citiz produces a delicious espresso taste and a full-bodied texture. I’m amazed at how consistently high-quality hot beverages are delivered. You may utilize cups of varying heights with its 2-tier drip tray without worrying about spills.

Nespresso Citiz vs Essenza Plus: Differences

Nespresso Citiz wins 3-0 and ties once against Essenza Plus. It boasts a more velvety espresso texture and convenient foldable cup support, among numerous other advantages. Check out how these models perform for me and if they are as good as their advertisements.

Heating system

Winner: DeLonghi Nespresso Citiz

Thermoblock is the main heating element for both devices. Without a doubt, Thermoblock offers good temperature control, and it helps each higher degree F with better stability, at least theoretically. Advertisements claim that Citiz heats water to completion in under 25 seconds while Essenza Plus does it in 30.

And the real performance of these Thermoblocks? And when I put the hypothesis to the test, I discovered that after around this period of time, I could actually brew espresso or lungo without major issues.

There is a catch, though. These appliances require around 30 seconds to heat up to a temperature that is suitable for drinking immediately but not hot. So I advise leaving these puppies on for longer than a minute or two to get the desired hot temperature if you like a steaming cup of coffee that you can savor slowly.

Brewing technique and espresso quality

Winner: DeLonghi Nespresso Citiz

Delonghi Nespresso Citiz and Delonghi Nespresso Essenza Plus extract coffee or espresso using a 19-bar pump pressure. I can produce powerful, fresh, and full-bodied espresso with the same pump pressure method. I also didn’t detect any plastic flavor coming from the machines, which I was initially worried about, given their plastic construction.

However, Citiz produces espresso with a superior texture to Delonghi Nespresso Essenza Plus. It has a greater body and silky texture. Additionally, the crema is creamier and richer. Therefore, even if the flavor of Citiz espresso is theoretically the same as this machine, it is of higher quality.

Water tanks’ features

Tie

The water tanks’ capacity and rotary characteristics make using them as easy as ever. Delonghi Nespresso Citiz boasts a 30.4 oz, while Essenza Plus uses a slightly larger 33.8 oz reservoir. Both tanks can be located sideways or at the back of the devices, so refilling them should be easy.

The convenience of the cup support

Winner: DeLonghi Nespresso Citiz

Citiz boasts 2-tier sup support, with the top one being able to fold and remain vertically attached to the device’s frame. This gives the bottom tier a chance to shine and assist a much taller cup. The best thing is that users can still enjoy a mess-free experience because the bottom tier is attached to a drip tray.

If you look at Essenza Plus, Nespresso Pixie, or Inissia, their flippable drip trays allow users to use a taller and larger cup size as well. But this also means that users no longer have a functional drip tray then. If the machine leaks, this will make a mess of your kitchen table. Therefore, I highly appreciate the foldable cup support feature of Citiz, which is something Essenza Plus doesn’t share.

Nespresso Citiz vs Essenza Plus: Similarities

Check out these 3 major similarities between Nespresso Citiz and Essenza Plus.

Quiet operation

Both models brew fairly quietly. One of my friends mentioned that his Citiz was a bit loud when extracting espresso, so I was worried that I would experience the same issue when I got the machine. But it’s not the same for me after all. The operation is smooth, and the noise level is nowhere near annoying.

Straightforward control panel

The control panel of Citiz and Essenza Plus consists of simple buttons representing drinks of choice and other straightforward control. With Citiz, there are 2 one-ouch buttons for espresso and lungo. And for Essenza Plus, you can control 4 buttons for: one-touch order (ordering new capsules before you are out of stock), hot water, lungo, and espresso.

Cleaning & maintenance

Cleaning capsules are required for Nespresso machines. They have the same appearance as coffee capsules and, for the most part, perform the same functions. The same brewing system used for coffee is used to push cleaning soap through the brew group quickly. This soap is ideal for espresso machines. In conclusion, cleaning Nespresso machines is simple and hassle-free.
