Nespresso Citiz Delonghi vs Breville: Should You Choose The Delonghi or Breville Version Of The Citiz?

I get commissions for purchases made through links in this post. Read more

Let me tell you quickly. There is only 1 major difference between the 2 machines in the debate of Nespresso Citiz Delonghi vs Breville. And this difference determines that the Delonghi version is the true winner!

With Delonghi Nespresso Citiz, you can enjoy a very stable espresso-extracting experience. With its 19-bar pump and efficient Thermoblock, users won’t have to wait long to get refreshing coffee in the morning. But, the biggest reason the model wins is that it doesn’t suffer from leaking problems like Breville Citiz.

As for the runner-up Breville Nespresso Citiz, users can expect the same benefits as the Delonghi line, minus the leak control. The tank has been leaking water on my kitchen counter, and there isn’t a way to salvage it.

Nespresso Citiz Delonghi vs Breville: Differences

There are only 2 differences between the Delonghi and Breville Nespresso Citiz.

The first one is that they don’t share the same spout design but function similarly. This isn’t a major detail that I want to comment on.

The second difference, however, is worthy of mentioning. Despite being designed with a similar water tank size (30.4 oz for Delonghi and 34 oz for Breville), the product line of Breville has trouble controlling the leaking issue.

Delonghi Nespresso Citiz doesn’t have leaking problem

With Delonghi, I haven’t had to wipe the table top frequently due to water leaking through the connector between the water tank and the device. On the contrary, Breville leaks a lot, especially when the tank is filled close to the max line. So normally, I have to half-fill it and dump the water out after finishing brewing. This minimizes the possibility of a messy countertop.

Of course, I’m not suggesting that all products of the Breville Nespresso Citiz line have a leaking problem. It really lies in each device’s production.

Nespresso Citiz Delonghi vs Breville: Similarities

There are more similarities than differences, which is obvious because they belong to the same Citiz product line. Check out three things about this pair’s design that will interest you.

2 tiers cup support

Both devices have 2 cup platforms to support different cup heights and avoid splashing. It seems like a minor detail, but it’s convenient to avoid extra cleaning tasks. Many other machines have a flippable tray that may appear more suitable at first. But that removes the purpose of the drip tray, which is to catch spilling espresso. I don’t have to sacrifice that comfort with this pair.

Dreg drawer capacity

With a dreg drawer that can store up to 10 capsules, these machines can last around 2-3 days before requiring clearing out the container. Of course, I still recommend dumping it daily to avoid bacteria formation or any other health hazard.

Espresso extraction

Delonghi and Breville Nespresso Citiz employ a 19-bar pump pressure to extract espresso. As a result, the flavor is rich and nuanced, and the crema layer is quite thick. As a result, you can choose various coffee capsules with diverse flavors to vary your home-coffee experience.

Quick Rundown Of Delonghi Nespresso Citiz

Nespresso CitiZ Original Espresso Machine by De'Longhi, Black
  • Note: 1)Too coarse a grind, too little coffee, or insufficiently tamping the grounds before brewing can all lead to inadequate pressure for a proper brew. 2)It is important to note that the amount of espresso extracted will vary depending on the grind size and amount and reprogramming may be needed when the size and amount are adjusted
