Cut-price espresso machines are getting more and more powerful these days. So if you are looking for one, don’t miss my review of the debate Delonghi EC702 vs ECP3630. In terms of design and performance, the Delonghi EC702 is, in my opinion, marginally superior to the ECP3630.
The Delonghi EC702 produces outstanding espresso shots and has a good cup warming tray that might assist you in avoiding harsh coffee. And because of this machine’s 44oz tank, refilling the tank is slightly less frequent if you brew under 4 cups per day.
The ECP3630 is somewhat smaller with a 37oz tank. It also loses to EC702 since it lacks a good cup warmer. Although it is less expensive, this little machine can produce espresso shots that are on par with the EC702. Therefore, please take both smartphones’ value for money into account.

Delonghi EC702 vs ECP3630: Differences
Delonghi EC702 wins 2-1 and ties once against ECP3630. Both are adequate budget espresso makers, but EC702 boasts a larger tank size and a quieter extraction. I will explain how the devices work for me below!
Water Tank size
Winner: Delonghi EC702
With a 44oz water tank, the EC702 offers a better chance of less frequent refilling. As for ECP3630, its water tank can hold up to 37oz, which is only 7oz smaller, but still a difference that we must be aware of.

Since these machines are semi-automatic, users have manual control over the volume of each shot of espresso that the devices pull. So there is no saying how long or how much espresso can the water tanks hang out on before running out of water, as it depends entirely on our manual dosing.
Brewing technique
Winner: Delonghi EC702
The Delonghi EC702 produces excellent espresso. The 15-bar pressure controls the optimal espresso for you and this level of pressure is standard in today’s espresso machines. With the 15 bars pump, users can theoretically extract every ounce of espresso with full flavor and attractive crema. So how does EC702 truly performs? The espresso tastes nuanced and flavorful, and the machine can deliver a decent layer of crema.
In terms of espresso extraction, the ECP3630 has the same progress and features as the EC702: a dependable 15-bar pump system, ideal temperature, and freedom in deciding coffee length. Single and double shot options are available with the 3-in-1 filter holder. You may play around with the filter baskets to change how strong the espresso flavor is in each cup.
Another notable feature of this pair is its ability to pull double shots, all thanks to the portafilter and filter basket with ideal 18g dosing. The thing is that the ECP3630 is a bit noisy when it extracts espresso, despite its quite secure mounting. This is a minute detail, but major enough to put ECP3630 in second place this round.

Steamed Milk
Tie
Affordable espresso machines can take an eternity to froth milk. But with the Delonghi EC720 and ECP3630, that is definitely not the case. In a pitcher or directly in the cup you’re ready to sip your coffee from, you may steam milk in an efficient way. For me, it doesn’t take longer than 40s with ECP3630 and 1 minute 10s with EC702 to froth dry foam for my cup of cappuccino.
These machines employ a classic steam wand system that offers powerful steam pressure to froth milk. Despite their low prices, the milk systems perform incredibly well, especially ECP3630, with quick frothing sessions. This device also has an adjustable wand to froth steamed milk or cappuccino-quality foam, but I have tested the functions, and they are very similar.
Dual thermostats on the EC720 and ECP3630 maintain the ideal steam and water pressure level. Additionally, because each thermostat is independently controlled, you can always prepare the ideal espresso with a rich crema and warm milk to go with it without wasting too much temperature. With that said, ECP3630 sometimes still experiences a drop in milk temperature.
Heat-up time
Winner: Delonghi ECP3630
While Delonghi ECP3630 only takes under 1 minute to heat up and around 5 minutes to deliver hot water temperature, EC720 takes at least 10 to 15 minutes to achieve the same temperature performance. So, in terms of efficiency, it seems that EC720 has to give it up to ECP3630.

Will this time gap affect your coffee experience? Not really. But, if you are a busy user that needs a quick cup of coffee in the morning that will last at least a car ride, you may want to go with ECP3630. Given that the pair isn’t equipped with a remote start-up function, it’s obligatory that you go to them to turn the devices up. Therefore, there is no doubt that ECP3630 will be convenient to manage.
Delonghi EC702 vs ECP3630: Similarities
Check out these similarities between the pair! The water level indicator and the cup warmer are 2 aspects that I think will have an impact on your home barista experience.
Water level indicator
Delonghi EC702 boasts a transparent side water tank that clearly displays the real-time water level. As for ECP3630, its water reservoir is top-loaded and is located at the back of the machine. Many may think that this makes checking the water level difficult, but that’s not the case. At the front of the machine, I can check the water level through the transparent display.
Cup warmer
Delonghi EC702 and ECP3630 are designed with a cup warmer on top that receives heat passively from the single boiler underneath. After testing how they perform, I suggest that users give the cups a good blast of hot water, then leave the cups they will use to brew shortly after on the tray. The heat of the trays isn’t high, but they sure can help maintain the preheated cups’ temperature.

I am Ralph Mason and I am a passionate coffee drinker. I worked as a barista for a few years and since 2012 I have been trying to convince as many people as possible of good coffee.
I started writing on the barista blog on RepublikCoffeeBar in 2018. It was a pure hobby site and I tested coffee products like coffee machines, beans, mug, and other accessories. After the first year, my blog is becoming a well-known coffee site with about 100 thousand visits per month.
In 2019 I decided to focus on RepublikCoffeeBar only. I became a full-time coffee blogger and was declared crazy by many.
