So you’re trying to decide whether Delonghi EC702 or EC155 delivers superior espresso flavor? Check out my review for the debate of Delonghi EC702 vs EC155, and you will surely be able to pick a good starter for your home-barista experience.
The Delonghi EC702 is a good option and is similarly the most expensive one. But it’s a reasonable price for espresso and cappuccino machines that fall into the same category as this one. The steam wand, which constantly produces creamy milk foam, helps the machine win the race. Additionally, it sports a larger water tank that needs fewer refills.
Regarding the runner-up, I advise consumers with little prior coffee maker expertise to try the EC155. It is a powerful, versatile, and small machine. The milk frother can also deliver fluffy foam for a good cup of latte, despite its less ergonomic design. In all cases, this is a cheaper choice if you don’t want to spend extra on your very first machine.

Delonghi EC702 vs EC155: Differences
Delonghi EC702 wins 2-1 and ties once against EC155. It boasts a better milk wand design and more durable construction. In terms of espresso flavor, I think it does a good job of delivering delicious cups. Find out more details below!
Espresso Extraction
Tie
An espresso machine usually provides a pleasurable experience while pulling shots. But if the pump pressure or the water temperature isn’t right, it can turn a cup from good to poor.
The Delonghi EC702 and EC155 can pull shots that taste divine! The devices come with a 3-in-1 filter holder for espresso pods or coffee grounds, and users can freely select single or double baskets depending on the servings they want. And since these machines can brew single-serve or twin shots, the convenience is impeccable.

Their 15-bar pump mechanism is strong and supportive for regular use. It’s the finest benefit any automated espresso machine can provide for such a low cost.
Milk Frother
Winner: Delonghi EC702
The Delonghi EC702’s frother appears to be much more convenient due to its thin and elongated shape, making maneuvering milk pitcher much more comfortable. The frother of the EC702 has a practical design, although it’s not entirely made of stainless steel. Even though it has some plastic pieces, it still makes smooth milk without any issues or a burnt plastic smell.
It’s not as if the one on EC155 isn’t functional and robust, but it has a broader and shorter shape, making frothing milk foam such a dreadful task for me. The short wand also makes it difficult to reach the bottom of the milk pitcher. So it’s harder to maneuver the container if there is even any maneuvering. Finally, the EC155’s bigger mouth causes the wand to blow out more bubbles, which is its main downside because we want to milk foam, not milk bubbles.
On the other hand, the pair can provide a velvety, smooth mouthfeel for several specialty beverages on a good day. However, the texture will get drier if we froth over 45s, so I suggest giving the milk a good steam blast under 40s only.

Material and construction
Winner: Delonghi EC702
Delonghi EC702 is made entirely of stainless steel and has a very solid and secure mounting. As a result, the machine vibrates moderately and is highly durable. Such a durable frame will resist impacts and breakage to a certain level.
As for EC155, there are more durable and noise-free machines out there. The frame is mostly made of plastic; only some consist of stainless steel panels, like the drip tray or the top and front of the machine.
This one also vibrates much more than EC702 due to its smaller footprint and more lightweight designs. However, the cup shakes around significantly when the system brews, and I usually have to hold the cup with my own hand, which is not ideal when hot espresso and water splashes around when dispensing.
Heat-up time
Winner: Delonghi EC155
Delonghi EC155 takes under 1 minute to heat up, while EC702 needs 10 minutes to warm up. If you are a busy user and always needs a quick cup of espresso or latte in the morning, I think EC155 will suit your need better.

On the other hand, EC702 works with a larger 44 oz water tank, while EC155 employs a 33.8 oz. So EC702 can brew for a larger group of users requiring a longer heat-up time. So there is a trade-off here that you should consider.
Delonghi EC702 vs EC155: Similarities
I will reveal 2 convenient similarities between Delonghi EC702 and EC155 that impact users’ experience with these 2 machines.
Visible water level
Both machines have their way of indicating the water level to give users a convenient look at the tank’s condition. With EC702, you can directly check the water level with the transparent side reservoir. With EC155, there is a small window at the front of the machine to give users a clear glimpse at the water level.
Speaking of the tanks, I want to reveal that: EC702 is side-loaded and has to be pulled out from the side. As for EC155, it’s at the back of the machine but can be pulled put vertically. You should keep this in mind and consider the best spot to put these devices.
Compatible with ESE pods
Of course, these standard modern espresso makers are compatible with ESE pods for a quick, clean, and convenient home-barista experience. You can make use of this feature to try different types of roast, even flavored ones.

I am Ralph Mason and I am a passionate coffee drinker. I worked as a barista for a few years and since 2012 I have been trying to convince as many people as possible of good coffee.
I started writing on the barista blog on RepublikCoffeeBar in 2018. It was a pure hobby site and I tested coffee products like coffee machines, beans, mug, and other accessories. After the first year, my blog is becoming a well-known coffee site with about 100 thousand visits per month.
In 2019 I decided to focus on RepublikCoffeeBar only. I became a full-time coffee blogger and was declared crazy by many.
