Are you debating whether to choose the Delonghi EC702 or the ECP3620? Both espresso machines are high-quality and reasonably priced. But the Delonghi EC702 is the lone winner in the end. So check out my verdict for the debate of Delonghi EC702 vs ECP3620.
Although the EC702 costs more than ECP3620, it’s definitely a worth-to-buy machine that I will choose over ECP3620 any day. A substantial 44-ounce water tank and an adjustable steam wand with a separate thermostat are some of the most favorable characteristics of the EC702. So if you want a cut-price yet stable espresso maker, EC702 will satisfy your needs.
The ECP3620 came in second place with a 37-ounce water tank and an easy-to-use steam wand. The design of this coffee maker is quite straightforward, making it perfect for beginners. However, the steam wand’s stability could be better in the world and will require users to be more careful to avoid a messy kitchen counter by the end of a frothing session.

Delonghi EC702 vs ECP3620: Differences
Delonghi EC702 wins 4-1 against ECP3620 thanks to its more stable steam wand and better pump pressure potency. However, there are various major reasons why I choose it to be the final winner, and you can find out what they are below!
Water tank capacity
Winner: Delonghi EC702
Delonghi EC702 comes with a 44oz water tank, while ECP3620 only has a 37oz one. It’s not a big difference, but it’s an extra 7oz reservoir capacity you can enjoy, which is equivalent to 3 double espresso or 6 single shots. If you only brew once or twice daily, the tank can last slightly longer and requires less frequent refilling.
Brewing technique and espresso flavor
Winner: Delonghi EC702
Both machines employ a 15-bar pump pressure system to extract espresso and bring out the best layer of crema that isn’t too thick nor too thin. These machines’ single boilers also do a phenomenal job of delivering hot drinks. I generally get cups around 165-170°F without milk and straight out of the group head.
However, I find the pump pressure ECP3620 to wear out fairly quickly compared to EC702. I used to brew around 4-5 shots per day to test the consistency and potency of the electric pump of both machines. As a result, the pressure drops significantly with the ECP3620 after about a month. I can’t measure the exact number of bar pumps, but the espresso is weakened considerably after the mentioned timespan.
Is this an all-time problem? Is there any way to avoid it? Since both devices are semi-automatic and highly affordable, they aren’t built for pulling shot after shot each day. Therefore, to avoid the pressure drop, I don’t recommend pulling more than 4 espressos daily and constantly. Instead, I recommend both models for single users or couples who only drink a maximum of 2 cups per day (each person).
Other than that, if I brew moderate espresso daily, I get very delicious cups with the pair.
Warming Tray’s design
Winner: Delonghi EC702
The more costly espresso machine of the two is the Delonghi EC702. The EC702’s huge warming tray and stainless steel appearance are what set it apart as the best rival. In addition, two full-sized cups may be kept on the tray to warm up on top of the machine.
If you’re aware, warming your espresso cups before extraction enhances the quality of the coffee. It also enables you to keep the espresso hot while steaming milk or cleaning up after brewing for a longer period at the ideal sipping temperature.
Milk frother
Winner: Delonghi EC702
Both Delonghi EC702 and ECP3620 are designed with dual thermostats that assist their single boiler. The purpose of the separate thermostats is to control the brewing and steaming temperature, ensuring no drop in overall heat between the processes. Also, the wait in-betweens the steaming and brewing steps is much quicker.
There is a catch here, though. Even though the pair boasts good temperature control in the milk frothing step, ECP3620 doesn’t boast a stable shut-off milk frother. This is the major reason why it can’t win the round, even though its brothers and sisters, like ECP3420 and 3630, are so well-received for their stable steam wands.
When I switch the knob to cut the frothing process, the valve of the wand has a hard time shutting off, and it still dispenses a good blast of steam and hot water. It takes a few seconds for it to die down completely. So, if I don’t hold the milk jug still and pull it away from the frother, there is a chance that it will splash around my counter or my hand.
Price
Winner: Delonghi ECP3620
You may get started with the Delonghi ECP3620 if you aren’t quite ready to commit to a rather pricey espresso maker yet. It has a straightforward design and is less expensive. In addition, the espresso is thick, excellent, and laced with crema every time.
On the other hand, I still advise EC702 if you are okay with spending a little extra money, though. The functionality is significantly better and more stable overall. In addition, this particular model of coffee maker can accompany users for a longer time.
