Jura C60 vs E8: Exploring The Differences And Finding The Better

I’ve noticed many differences in the side-by-side comparison of Jura C60 vs E8. The Jura E8 deserves to be the undisputed winner in this comparison.

The Jura E8 outshines the C60 with more advanced brewing technologies such as P.E.P. Its Professional Aroma Grinder operates more quietly, ensuring a peaceful brewing experience. The superior separate milk system allows for various milk textures, perfect for creating lattes, cappuccinos, and more. Additionally, it offers an extensive selection of 17 preset coffee specialties, including both espresso-based and milk-based drinks.

Meanwhile, the Jura C60 is a more basic coffee machine that doesn’t have a lot of the bells and whistles like the Jura E8. It features a simple text display and rotary switch control. It only provides 2 essential, basic coffee presets for users. Thus, this C60  is an appropriate entry-level for those who have just landed their hands on super-automatic machines for the first time, and their drink needs are simple.

Jura C60 vs E8: Differences

The Jura E8 emerged as the clear victor, scoring a perfect 5-0. It undeniably showcases itself as an exceptional machine. However, don’t overlook the commendable aspects of the Jura C60. Let’s delve into the finer details and appreciate each machine’s unique features and qualities, rather than solely focusing on the end result.

Coffee Flavor & Brewing System

Winner: Jura E8

Grinder

The Jura E8 has a fancy grinder called the Professional Aroma grinder. Jura says it’s super smooth, precise, and quiet, all while keeping the coffee beans’ aroma intact.

About the Jura C60, I scoured the depths of the internet, but alas, I couldn’t find any concrete information about its grinder. Is it rocking the Aroma G2 or the Aroma G3? I’m left scratching my head. However, I do know that it uses a stainless steel conical burr grinder. But no matter which generation it belongs to, there’s no hiding the truth – it’s much noisier than the Jura E8.

I found the grinding sound from the Jura E8 is as hushed as a secret whispered in the night. Seriously, you won’t hear any obnoxious grinding noises disturbing your serene morning routine. So you can effortlessly brew your morning espresso without causing a ruckus and abruptly waking up your family.

Both Jura E8 and C60 grinders allow us to adjust the grind size. But truth be told, I can’t help but wish for more. With 6 grind settings for the E8 and 5 for the C60, it may suffice for those starting their coffee journey. However, as you become more attuned to the subtle nuances of coffee, you’ll start craving more options to fine-tune the strength and flavor. It’s like realizing that the fineness of the grounds can make all the difference in your cup of joe.

Heating System

Jura C60 and E8, they both share a single thermoblock boiler, meaning they can’t simultaneously brew espresso and steam milk. Instead, these tasks must be done one after the other, resulting in a brief delay between them.

But the good news is that their heating system uses Thermoblock technology, so we don’t have to wait too long. These smart Thermoblock boilers only heat up precisely the right amount of water needed for each brewing or steaming session. This ingenious feature ensures that the delay is merely a matter of seconds. And let’s be honest, for home use, this slight delay is nothing to fret about.

Brewing Technology

Jura has made a name for itself in the coffee industry by crafting machines with top-notch technologies that deliver exceptional quality. They pour their expertise into every machine, ensuring each has the finest technology to bring out the flavors and aromas in the most magnificent way possible. So, whether you opt for a more affordable option or splurge on a higher-end model, you can trust Jura to provide you with a coffee experience that’s truly second to none.

The Jura E8 and the Jura C60 exemplify Jura’s unwavering commitment to excellence, regardless of their price points. They are both equipped with some sophisticated technologies such as Intelligent Pre-Brew Aroma System (I.P.B.A.S.©), 15 bar pressure pump. Now, I understand that all this technical knowledge can feel overwhelming, but fear not! I’m here to unravel it for you in a way that won’t make you doze off.

Intelligent Preheating

The Jura E8 has an impressive “Intelligent Preheating” specifically designed for short specialty coffees like Espresso, Ristretto, Macchiato, and Cortado. It works its magic by flooding the brewing chamber with hot water. What does this mean? Well, even before you embark on your first coffee preparation, the water lines and brewing unit have already reached the optimal temperature thanks to this preheating process. Once everything is warmed up and ready to go, the coffee grounds peacefully settle into the brewing chamber.

Pulse Extraction Process (P.E.P.)

When preparing those delightful short specialty coffees, the Jura E8 brings its secret weapon: the Pulse Extraction Process (P.E.P.). This process pumps hot water through the coffee grounds to unlock the full potential of the coffee’s flavors in quick bursts.  I didn’t bring up the Jura C60 because it lacks the “Intelligent preheating” and Pulse Extraction Process (P.E.P.®) features in the Jura E8.

If you hear the pumping sound while your Jura E8 is brewing, that delightful rhythmic pulse is none other than the signature sound of the Pulse Extraction Process at work.

The P.E.P. not only works its wonders on deeper, richer flavor but also plays a pivotal role in creating an indulgent crema layer. Do you agree with me that this velvety and luscious crema is like the crown jewel of a perfect cup of coffee? There’s something truly satisfying about indulging in a coffee with thick crema.

Intelligent Pre-Brew Aroma System (I.P.B.A.S)

Prepare to be amazed by the Intelligent Pre-Brew Aroma System (I.P.B.A.S) present in both the Jura C60 and E8. It gently soaks the coffee grounds before the brewing process commences. Doing so optimizes the extraction process, results in a more heightened flavor, and yields a delightfully silky espresso crema. It’s like witnessing the captivating bloom of coffee blossom.

In the Jura E8, this process unfolds gracefully before the Pulse Extraction Procedures come into play.

Our eyes, of course, can’t witness how these technologies are happening inside the machines. Each feature independently brings its own benefits, delivering delicious coffee and expanding the realm of espresso even further.  However, I can realize the difference in Jura E8 and C60 brewing performance and coffee flavor. When comparing them side by side, it becomes evident how their brewing systems shape the final cup of coffee.

During my test, I noticed that the Jura E8 brewed a cup of espresso approximately 10 seconds faster than the Jura C60. I know waiting a few seconds may not seem like a significant issue. But what truly matters to both you and me is the quality of the coffee, isn’t it? Well, let me assure you that the coffee quality delivered by the Jura E8 is truly unmatched. With its array of brewing technologies, particularly the exceptional P.E.P. feature, which the Jura C60 lacks, you can expect a deeper flavor profile and an abundance of crema. The coffee also gets higher temperatures.

Milk System

The Winner: Jura E8

Regarding frothing milk, both the Jura C60 and E8 take a similar approach. They both have an automatic system where they extract the milk from a container through a pipe, froth it internally within the machine, and then dispense it through the milk spout. This means I don’t have manual control over the texture of the milk.

As someone who enjoys experimenting and adjusting the froth to my liking, this setup can feel somewhat limiting. I appreciate having the ability to manipulate the milk’s texture manually. However, I can understand how this approach would be practical and convenient for beginners or those who prefer the simplicity of automated frothing.

In particular, their automatic milk froth systems incorporate the Professional Fine Foam Frother. With this advanced feature, users can effortlessly skip the complexities of manual frothing while still achieving consistent and velvety, and creamy foam.

Milk Texture

Their milk system’s difference lies in the milk textures offered by the Jura E8 and Jura C60. The milk texture that Jura E8 offers is cleverly preprogrammed for each specific drink. So, whether I’m craving a velvety Cappuccino, a creamy Flat White, or a decadent Latte Macchiato, the E8 ensures that I get a distinct texture tailored perfectly to complement each delightful beverage.

On the other hand, the Jura C60 specializes in creating only one milk texture: milk foam. It is a kind of milk foam crafted for a Cappuccino.

Design & Convenience

Dimensions, Weight & Appearance

Dimensions (W × H × D)11 × 13.6 × 16.1 in.11 × 13.8 × 17.6 in.
Weight21.2 lb21 lbs

Regarding weight and dimensions, the Jura C60 and E8 are quite similar. They both tip the scales at around 21 lb.

Weight is not typically a major concern for me when it comes to coffee machines. Once unboxed, they usually find a cozy spot on the countertop where they remain stationary. The weight only becomes a factor during the initial unboxing process. However, at around 21 lbs., a healthy individual can easily handle it without breaking a sweat.

About their dimensions. I must admit, they are not small machines, and they do occupy a fair amount of space on the kitchen counter. However, they’re not beasts either. Considering that they are super automatic machines, it’s expected that they won’t be really compact in size. They strike just the right balance and fit perfectly o my kitchen counter. They don’t overwhelm the space or leave me feeling cramped.

Jura E8's color options
Jura E8’s color options

When it comes to looks, the Jura E8 takes the spotlight with its impressive array of color choices. From the classy Piano Black and Piano White to the sleek Dark Inox and shiny Chrome, Jura E8 offers a range of options that can effortlessly match any kitchen design.

Meanwhile, the Jura C60 keeps things sleek and sophisticated with its all-black design.

Water tank

64-oz water tank of the jura e8
64-oz water tank of the jura e8

Both the Jura C60 and E8 feature water tanks positioned on the side of the machines, and they have been designed with a relatively modest capacity. Their water tanks can hold up to 64 oz of water.

However, it’s worth noting that the entire 64 oz capacity is not solely dedicated to brewing your coffee. The Jura C60 and E8 will use a lot of water because they have automatic cleaning systems. After each shot, these systems purge extra water to perform part of the cleaning cycle, resulting in a significant amount of water consumption. Therefore, the 64 oz capacity is considered sufficient for typical household use.

Personally, I find it to be quite reasonable for home use. A small water tank means a few more trips to the sink for refills, but trust me, it’s a small sacrifice for the tremendous payoff of always using fresh water, which ultimately leads to a better-tasting brew.

To add to their impressive features, both the Jura C60 and E8 are fully compatible with the CLEARYL Pro Smart filter, ensuring the use of fresh water for the best extraction.

They can automatically detect the presence of a filter (by the RFID). It then activates the filter mode, allowing you to enjoy the benefits of purified water. And they also notify you when it’s time for a filter change.

Bean Hopper

The bean hoppers of the Jura E8 and Jura C60 have different capacities. The Jura E8 boasts a 10 oz capacity, while the Jura C60 offers a slightly smaller 7 oz capacity. I know that we should not leave coffee beans in the hopper for too long. So I found these capacities are more than sufficient to cater to my coffee-loving needs.

The bean hopper of the Jura E8 has caught my eye, with its smart placement right on top of the machine. What’s even better is the clear plastic lid, allowing me to easily peek inside and gauge the remaining coffee bean levels in a single glance. It’s a handy feature that keeps me in the know, ensuring I never run out of beans unexpectedly. But, the Jura C60 takes a different approach, featuring a black cover for its bean hopper. Checking the bean levels requires me to open the cover, adding a minor step to the process.

Coffee Spout Dual Dual

Spout

Both the Jura C60 and E8 come equipped with a dual coffee spout. This dual coffee spout allows for the simultaneous preparation of two cups of coffee. It saves time and ensures that both cups are served with equal efficiency.

Jura E8's milk outlet and an additional spout for making milk-based drinks
Jura E8’s milk outlet and an additional spout for making milk-based drinks

The E8 has a separate milk spout designed exclusively for dispensing milk.  It also has a separate hot water spout just behind the coffee spouts. These separate spouts ensure that there is no risk of contamination between the milk, water, and other beverages.

With the brewing group positioned at the center and the milk spout on the right side, you might assume you’ll need to move your cup when preparing milk-based drinks. But fear not! You won’t have to lift a finger or shuffle your cup around. The magic happens seamlessly. The milk froth and espresso pour out together from the dedicated milk outlet and an additional spout located right beside the milk spout.

In the case of the Jura C60, the milk spout also serves as the water spout, offering a dual-purpose functionality. To switch between dispensing hot water and milk, you simply need to turn the knob. However, this design does come with a slight inconvenience.

If you have a sensitivity to milk, the shared milk and water spout design of the Jura C60 may not be ideal for you. The reason is that sometimes few remaining drops of milk are lingering in the system when switching from milk to hot water. This can lead to slight cross-contamination, impacting the purity of the hot water.

Cup Clearance

When it comes to cup clearance under the milk spout, the Jura E8 has the upper hand in terms of convenience. It offers the flexibility of adjusting the height to accommodate various cup sizes. As someone who enjoys pouring generous amounts of milk into the tall cup of latte, this adjustable feature is a definite advantage.

On the other hand, the Jura C60’s milk spout does not have the same height adjustability. If you prefer using taller cups for your milk-based beverages, the limited height of the milk spout on the C60 can be a downside in this regard.

Don’t panic! Even though the milk spout on the Jura C60 may not be height-adjustable, with a little tilt and finesse, it can accommodate the taller cups.

The milk spout on the Jura C60 is not height-adjustable. But you can tilt it to fit the taller cups.

In the realm of coffee specialties and customizations, the Jura E8 emerges as the clear winner, surpassing the Jura C60 by a significant margin. With a whopping 17 preset specialties, the E8 offers a diverse range of coffee options to suit every palate. In contrast, the C60 falls short with only 4 available presets. The difference between the two is indeed substantial, leaving no doubt about the E8’s superiority in this category.

Specifically, the Jura C60 is designed to cater to those with simpler needs. It provides basic options, limited to coffee and espresso. Honestly, I’m very disappointed.

While the Jura C60 features a milk system, it is unfortunate that it does not offer any pre-programmed milk-based drinks. This means that users must rely on their skills and expertise to create their desired lattes, cappuccinos, or flat whites. For seasoned coffee enthusiasts or experienced baristas, this may not pose much of a challenge as they are familiar with the art of crafting these beverages. However, it could be a struggle for beginners to find the right recipe and achieve the desired results. Otherwise, they risk ending up with an unnamed concoction of coffee and milk, missing out on the authentic milk-based coffee experience.

Meanwhile, the Jura E8 shines in its ability to cater to both espresso-based and milk-based drinks. It offers many milk-based drinks such as Cappuccino, Flat white, Latte macchiato.

Even better, to add an extra kick of intensity to your cappuccino, flat white, or latte macchiato, the Jura E8 offers exciting presets called the Extra Shot function. These presets allow you to elevate your coffee’s strength, catering to those who prefer a bolder and more robust coffee flavor in their milk-based drinks.

The customizable features of both the Jura E8 and C60 allow us to fine-tune our coffee and milk drinks according to our specific preferences. However, it is the Jura E8 that, again, shines in this aspect, surpassing the C60 with its extensive range of programmability and fine-tuning options.

The table clearly showcases the remarkable versatility of the Jura E8. With a multitude of parameters that can be adjusted and personalized, it empowers us to create coffee and milk beverages that cater to our exact taste preferences.

Utilities

The Winner: Jura E8

Cup Warmer

It has come to my attention that some users have expressed concerns about the temperature of the coffee produced by these machines. They found that the coffee is not as hot as they prefer. This is a common issue that I’ve personally encountered with various coffee machines in the past.

After some investigation, I discovered that the problem often lies in not preheating the cup before pouring the coffee. When hot liquids come into contact with a cold surface, the heat is quickly absorbed, resulting in a noticeable decrease in the drink’s temperature.

By taking the simple step of preheating the cup, you can significantly minimize heat loss and enjoy a much hotter cup of coffee.

Jura C60/C65’s cup warmer

The Jura C60 boasts a nifty cup warmer perched on top of the machine, ready to indulge your cups with cozy warmth.

On the other hand, the Jura E8 does not include this feature. However, you can purchase the Jura Cup Warmer separately from trusted online retailers like Amazon. This additional investment can prove to be a wise choice as you can bid farewell to lukewarm brews and embrace the sheer delight of a piping hot cup of coffee.

User Interface

Jura C60 vs E8: User interface
Jura C60 vs E8: User interface

When it comes to the display, the Jura E8 elevates the experience with its advanced and visually appealing 2.8″ color display. The menu is thoughtfully designed to be intuitive, ensuring seamless navigation through the various options and settings. What’s more, two rows of buttons enhance the ease of use and make navigation a breeze.

The user interface of Jura C60 is much more simple. Personally, I find that navigating the machine using a couple of dials, with one even serving as a button, along with the plain text, can be a bit challenging to grasp. However, this simplicity may appeal to those who prefer a more minimalistic and straightforward user interface. It’s a matter of personal preference and comfort when understanding and operating the machine effectively.

Smart App Connectivity

The Jura E8 offers an added level of convenience as it can be controlled by the Jura Smart app. Through the app, I can effortlessly explore the extensive range of coffee drink options and fine-tune settings such as coffee strength and temperature, all from the comfort and convenience of my smartphone.

As I mentioned above, I found the user interface of the Jura C60 to be a bit more challenging to navigate compared to the E8. So I had hoped for WiFi connectivity to pair with the app and compensate for this slight drawback. Unfortunately, my hopes were shattered when I discovered that the C60 does not support app compatibility. This meant that I had to rely solely on the machine’s built-in controls and features, without the added convenience and customization options that the app could have provided.
