Jura E8 vs S8 are both great espresso machines for mid-range budget users, but the E8 model is slightly better than its counterpart, thanks to some unique extra features.
If you are looking for a feature-rich espresso maker, you can’t go wrong with the Jura E8. During testing, I noticed that it had something special that could put it in front of the opponent. For example, it comes with an Intelligent Pre-Brew Aroma System that you can’t find on the S8. In addition, it is packed with Intelligent Pre-Brew Aroma System technology, has more temperature settings, and more.
However, the S8 is not far behind the E8 and is still a great espresso machine for many coffee enthusiasts. It’s also ideal for those who prefer a large touch screen, like me.

Jura E8 vs S8: Key Differences
In this head-to-head comparison, the Jura E8 beat its S8 counterpart with a score of 3-1. The E8 is significantly cheaper, has a convenient touchscreen, makes more types of coffee, and is easier to clean. In addition, it has a few special things that the S8 does not, such as Jura’s pre-brew aroma system. Keep reading for more details.
Espresso Flavor

The winner: Jura E8
- Preset Drinks
The Jura S8 can produce 15 types of coffee, from the cappuccino to the latte macchiato I enjoy every morning. Meanwhile, the Jura E8 machine enables you to make 17 different specialties, including a modern cortado, the classic espresso, and more.
Regarding the number of coffees that can be made, the E8 is slightly better than the S8. But when it comes to the result, we have a tie, as both give you an aromatic, smooth, and balanced extraction of coffee.
- Temperature
In term of temperature, the Jura E8 has more temperature settings than the S8. Now both are equipped with dual temperature settings – for brewing and hot water.
For hot water, both have three temperature presets available. But when talking about brewing, the E8 lets you customize it up to three levels, whereas the S8 only has two.
- Smart Pre-Heating
Jura is always proud of its Intelligent Pre-Brew Aroma System (I.P.B.A.S.©), adapting the amount of pre-brewing water to your selected amount of ground coffee. This unique technology keeps the brewing unit hot and ensures it’s ready for brewing anytime.
You can find this technology in the Jura E8, but it is not yet available in the S8. The good news is that both options have Thermoblock for quick and efficient heating.
Utilities
The winner: Jura S8.
- Ability to Connect to Smart Devices
The E8 can be connected to your phone or tablet through Smart Connect. But it requires you to purchase the Smart Connect accessory separately.
On the flip side, the Jura S8 lets you connect to your smart device via Bluetooth. That means buying the Smart Connect accessory is unnecessary, allowing you to save a few dollars. I believe this difference is not significant enough to influence your buying decision.
- Interface
The S8 features a 4.3-inch touchscreen color display without a rotary switch or buttons. Meanwhile, the screen of the E8 is smaller and is not a touchscreen. Instead, it is a 2.8-inch TFT color display with buttons and a rotary dial interface.
The great touchscreen contributes to the S8’s fancy look, making it look more modern and sleek compared to models with a rotary dial interface like the E8. It allows you to choose a coffee drink, replicate the previous customized drink, and set the programmable hot water temperature easily as a breeze.
Both units feature indicator lights, letting users know when to change the water and clean the system. But the S8 model is a bit more advanced, as it can alert you when you need to refill its bean hopper. It is a nifty aspect of the Jura S8, but I think it is a nice-to-have feature instead of a must-have one.
Cleaning And Maintenance

The winner: Jura E8.
Honestly, I love coffee but hate cleaning, and if you’re like me, the Jura E8 is your best bet.
Both have the modern integrated rinsing, cleaning, and descaling program. But the feature that puts the E8 ahead of its counterpart is its automatic one-touch milk cleaning system, which allows the sophisticated milk system cleaning process to take place automatically at the touch of a button and is finished in no time.
I believe it is a great feature to have since you should wash your milk spout regularly to ensure that the milk taste doesn’t change because of the dirty pipe and spout.
Price And Value
The winner: Jura E8.
In terms of pricing, the E8 is greatly less expensive than its S8 counterpart, making it ideal for those on a budget.
The S8 has a few features that the E8 doesn’t, like active bean monitoring, but I don’t think they are a must-have. On the flip side, the Jura E8 also has some major features you can’t find on its counterpart, such as an intelligent pre-heating system or an automatic one-touch milk cleaning system.
I wouldn’t want to spend a significant amount of money on the Jura S8 as the E8 is more than enough for me to have a great experience every morning.
Jura E8 vs S8: Main Similarities
Design
The design of both the Jura S8 and E8 are very similar, except that the S8 has a touchscreen color display while the E8 does not.
At first glance, they look almost identical, with a 64 oz water tank and a 10 oz coffee bean hopper. What’s more, both are made of high-quality plastic. Their puck container and drip tray are removable, making maintenance easy.
Their espresso machines are similar in dimensions as well: The Jura S8 is 11 x 13.8 x 17.3 inches, whereas the Jura E8 is 11 x 13.8 x 17.6 inches.
Grinder
It is safe to say that the grinder is one of the essential features of a coffee maker that will impact your coffee quality. In this category, we have a draw because both have the same great grinder.
The Jura E8 and S8 come with a six-level Aroma G3 grinder, allowing them to grind coffee at approximately twice the speed of many other coffee makers. Moreover, stainless steel will ensure you get fine coffee without stray chunks.
This grinder also prevents your coffee beans from oxidizing, offering coffee aficionados to get extremely aromatic and flavorful coffee cups. In addition, these machines have a grinder bypass option, enabling you to use pre-ground coffee in your coffee maker.
I found the S8 machine a bit quieter than the E8, especially when grinding. But I believe the difference isn’t too big and shouldn’t be a significant issue if you choose the E8.
Milk System
In terms of the milk system, the S8 and E8 are pretty similar. Both models are equipped with a fully automatic milk system. So no matter which model you opt for, you can gain creamy steamed milk for your favorite beverage.
Both units have a fine foam milk frother, allowing you to brew drinks like flat whites. On the other hand, if you like, you can stick to more standard hot milk drinks. Either way, you will have an excellent beverage.
Furthermore, the milk frothers of both work great with non-dairy milk, which is ideal for vegans. I’m not a vegan, but many of my loved ones are. So I believe the ability to use non-dairy drinks like almond is definitely essential.
Power-Saving Features
The Jura’s energy-saving standards are impressive, and both the E8 and S8 benefit from this. These machines feature low-power mode, auto shut-off, and standby mode.
Special Features
Jura E8 and S8 share some special features. The first one is memorizing the user’s favorite drinks, making them more effortless for you to re-create the special latte you have made.
What’s more, both options feature the Intelligent Pre-infusion System and a CLARIS Smart water filtering system. The IPBAS will ensure the flavor of your beverage, whereas the intelligent water system will remove all impurities in the water.

I am Ralph Mason and I am a passionate coffee drinker. I worked as a barista for a few years and since 2012 I have been trying to convince as many people as possible of good coffee.
I started writing on the barista blog on RepublikCoffeeBar in 2018. It was a pure hobby site and I tested coffee products like coffee machines, beans, mug, and other accessories. After the first year, my blog is becoming a well-known coffee site with about 100 thousand visits per month.
In 2019 I decided to focus on RepublikCoffeeBar only. I became a full-time coffee blogger and was declared crazy by many.
