Which espresso maker, Jura D6 vs Philips 3200, produces superior beverages and has a simpler design? The device that dominates the debate is Philips 3200.

Philips 3200 is a simple yet complete model. This machine also produces amazing espresso with a balanced flavor that I repeatedly savor. The milk foam texture also makes a favorable impression on me because it’s unusual for machines in this price range to froth creamy foam to perfection. I highly recommend this as an entry machine, even for people with little expertise with this type of device.

Jura D6 excels in terms of taste. The cappuccino is this machine’s specialty and features a variety of one-touch beverages. I consistently get great cups with light, dry milk froth with this model. However, due to some design issues, I have some concerns about its worth. For example, all the adjustment and drink selection is crammed into a single dial knob.

Jura D6 vs Philips 3200: Differences

Philips 3200 wins 3-1 and ties once against Jura D6. The machine has a better price for value, and its numerous grinder settings also give me a better customization experience. I will comment further below!

Espresso flavor and ergonomy in drinks selection

Winner: Philips 3200

In terms of flavor, Jura D6 can brew stronger cups than Philips 3200. On the other hand, the espresso flavor from Philips 3200 leans toward the mellower and more balanced side. So regarding this aspect, it depends on the preference of users to decide which machine is better. But for me, I think Jura D6 excels.

But, there is a catch in the selection of beverages. My experience with the Philips 3200 has been much more comfortable. The entire set of one-touch drinks is organized and displayed clearly on the main interface. All I have to do is click, and the machine will brew it. All the customization options are displayed clearly as well.

With Jura D6, it has been a bit difficult to select drinks and adjust the strength of the shot. Why? Because the entire selection is cramped into a single dial knob. This makes the machine not very ergonomic and not beginner-friendly.

Grinder‘s performance

Winner: Philips 3200

Regarding the grinders, Jura D6 has not been as effective as Philips 3200. Jura D6 has a G2 generation, a less recent generation of grinder from Jura. This may be the cause of my several jams after only three weeks of using the machine.

The coffee grind has always been equal and smooth using the Philips 3200. Even if it makes some noise when grinding beans, I still believe the Philips 3200 performs considerably better in this regard. But, of course, the noise level isn’t so unreasonable that it ruins my experience.

On the other hand, Philips 3200 offers more grinder settings than Jura D6. I find the 12 settings much more sufficient than the 6 settings that the later device has. With 12 settings, users can organically adjust the coffee strength. And I have tested the max setting. It can deliver very finely ground. As for the limited 6 settings on Jura D6, users may have difficulty fine-tuning the ground texture to their liking.

Heating system

A tie!

There isn’t much to say regarding the heating element because the pair performs a fantastic job. One boiler is included with the Philips 3200, and one Thermoblock is included with the Jura D6. They self-prime quite quickly and begin making beverages.

Normally, I will always advise users to take on the Thermoblock system or any other innovative heating element instead of a single boiler. But after testing them so many times and getting the same temperature performance with espresso cups at around 165°F all the time, I don’t think the Thermoblock on Jura D6 makes any difference.

In fact, I note that 3200 performs consecutive extraction a tiny bit better. It ensures that the water is always hot, producing consistently good espresso. This means the second brew doesn’t suffer a big temperature drop compared to the first. Efficiency is high with this machine.

Milk System

Winner: Jura D6

Jura D6 excel in this aspect. Thanks to its automatic milk system that is reasonably potent, I can froth dry foam with this model for drinks like cappuccino or latte macchiato. As for the steam wand of Philips 3200 can bring about creamy milk foam for lattes and other beverages that don’t require too thick of fluffy foam.

Jura D6 can make microfoam

To create foam more quickly, I no longer need to swerve the milk or carafe with Jura D6 manually. But it also gives me less control over the outcome. Because the Philips 3200 has a built-in steam wand, I have to handle the milk jug manually. In return, I get to choose in advance the final texture of the milk froth.

Sizes of water tank, bean hopper, and drip tray

Winner: Philips 3200

  • Philips 3200: 61 oz water tank, 9.6 oz bean hopper, and large drip tray
  • Jura D6: 63.6 oz, 7.1 oz, and narrow drip tray

With this information in hand, I think the Philips 3200 is superior in compartments sizes. However, the drip tray’s capacity is what calls my attention the most. The one of Jura D6 is too narrow and shallow. So every time I have to dump the water, it’s very easy for it to splash.

Jura D6 vs Philips 3200: Similarities

Jura D6 and Philips 3200 are 2 highly distinctive machines. In fact, Jura D6 shares more features with 3200’s fellow product line, Philips 3200 LatteGo. But, there are still some small details that the pair shares. Check them out below!

Empty water tank and full drip tray indicators

These modern machines are designed with various ergonomic features, including indicators that alert when it’s time to refill the tank or dump the drip tray. In fact, the devices won’t start brewing unless we do something about these issues. In addition, the indicators help keep us up with the cleaning schedule and ensure that the devices’ longevity is prolonged.

Lightweight design

Jura D6 and Philips 3200 weigh under 20 pounds, which is rare for espresso machines. They also share a compact footprint, making them perfect for small spaces. Speaking of space-saving, their water tanks’ positions always play a huge part. While Philips 3200 boasts a front-pull water tank, which is the best position possible, Jura D6 owns a side water tank that is vertical-pull. Ultimately, Philips 3200’s saves more space and is easier to remove!
