Breville Barista Touch Vs Philips 3200 LatteGo: Differences

While testing both machines, I found a few differences and that the Barista Touch outperformed the Philips 3200 by a 3-1 score. Still, it was a tight fight, especially since both of these machines make excellent coffee without any hassle or bother!

FLAVOR

The Winner: Breville Barista Touch

Although the Philips 3200 LatteGo has a superior grinder, the Breville Barista Touch makes better coffee through its brew functions.

Grinder

The Philips 3200 LatteGo surprised me as it had a better grinder among the two. Ceramic flat burr grinders are one of the most notable features of the Philips 3200 LatteGo.

Coffee grinders with flat burrs are best because their grind is more even, allowing the machine to extract a more accurate flavor. However, some consumers may find that the flat burr grinder can be noisy, which is a concern for some coffee-lovers, especially in the mornings.

In addition to the built-in grinder, the Breville Barista Touch also has a conical burr grinder to grind coffee beans. Although conical burr grinders help keep down the machine’s price, they also result in a less consistent grind than other machines. In terms of grind settings, the Barista Touch grinder has the edge over the Philips option as it has a number of them.

With the Barista Touch, you can fine-tune the grind settings and adjust them as needed, thanks to the stepless grinder used. The Philips 3200 LatteGo, on the other hand, has a five-step grinder, which you can also adjust, but not to the same degree as the Barista Touch.

Ceramic grinders are used in both machines, making them an excellent choice for automatic machines. For manual machines, stainless steel grinders work best, but if you wish to get a high-quality espresso with little effort, you’ll be better off with ceramic grinders.

Heating System

Breville Barista Touch is the better machine between these two, but that isn’t saying much. In terms of heating systems, these both use thermoblocks. A thermoblock heats water much more quickly than a traditional boiler. When you employ this technique, on the other hand, you have to sacrifice a significant amount of consistency when it comes to the temperature.

Both machines use the same heating system, but there is a slight difference in how it is done on the Barista Touch. That’s because the Barista Touch uses thermocoils instead of thermoblocks to heat the water. While it does not differ in its use of thermoblocks, this system allows for much more even and consistent temperatures than the conventional thermoblocks. As an additional feature, Barista Touch is also equipped with digital temperature control (PID), which allows it to deliver even more accurate and consistent results.

Philips 3200 LatteGo does not come with PID, but it does come with a 3-step temperature adjustment so that you can alter the temperature to your liking. Having a precise temperature is very important when pulling a quality espresso shot so that you can make the highest quality coffee possible. The Barista Touch offers more control and consistency than the 3200 LatteGo.

Brew Function & Pre-Infusion

Both machines are capable of brewing coffee, but there are some differences between them. They both have a pressure pump that pushes water through the coffee grounds at 15-bars of pressure. Both machines can hit the 9-15 bar mark, which is considered optimal for a great shot of espresso.

Pre-infusion is where the differences arise, however. My barista had no problem with pre-infusion, and my coffee always tasted great whenever I used the Barista Touch. On the other hand, I noticed a small leak during the pre-infusion phase of the Philips 3200 LatteGo, which was a bit disappointing.

MILK SYSTEM

The Winner: Breville Barista Touch

The Philips 3200 LatteGo coffee machine will find the LatteGo milk system. Philips is demonstrating the innovative potential of their milk packaging system, which is a testament to their innovation. LatteGo’s milk steam system can produce softer milk foam than its competitors as it steams the milk directly without tubes.

Unfortunately, many coffee drinkers do not have a reasonable opinion about this system. As a result, the milk machine can only produce one or two milk drinks because you can’t adjust any of the settings, and due to the small jar, it can only make one or two milk drinks at once. Many people also complain about the LatteGo system being a bit noisy for their taste, which many believe unnecessary.

The Barista Touch comes with a more traditional milk system. With the automatic steam wand, you can scald the milk to the perfect temperature without worrying about it being overheated. With this adjustable milk frothing wand, you can make frothing milk even easier than before with its automatic purge feature.

Unlike the Philips 3200 LatteGo, the Barista Touch lets you adjust the milk texture as well as the milk temperature, giving you complete control over your beverage. You can even create foam-like milk for your latte art with the Barista Touch’s milk system by making sure you adjust the settings!

UTILITIES

The Winner: Phillips 3200 LatteGo

With regard to utilities, the 3200 LatteGo takes the cake. Due to its convenience, it is a much more convenient method for making coffee. In contrast, the Barista Touch has an advantage over the 3200 LatteGo in that it allows you to customize 8 different coffee profiles.

This machine allows you to change various parameters, such as temperature, flow rate, and dosage, at the touch of a button. However, that is the only area where the Barista Touch exceeds the 3200 LatteGo.

Each machine offers five preprogrammed drinks you can select and brew with a single touch. Although both of these tablets have very nice touchscreens, the user interface of the 3200 LatteGo is more intuitive, which is why I believe that it would be the better choice in terms of practicality.

CLEANING & MAINTENANCE

The Winner: Breville Barista Touch

Due to its construction, the Barista Touch is easier to clean than other machines. Thanks to its accessible scrubbing properties, the stainless steel case makes it easy to clean spills and drips. While you can do the same thing with the LatteGo 3200 as well, it’s significantly harder to remove stains and spills because it’s made of plastic.

Furthermore, the Barista Touch’s great design nearly eliminates spills when making coffee. The drip trays on both machines are removable, so they are easy to clean. On the contrary, you can remove everything needed for cleaning from the espresso machines, including the water tank, which is really an attractive feature for those who want to make their espresso at home.

You will not have to descale these machines as often because both engines have decent water filters built-in. In addition, both appliances have automatic descaling functions when you have to descale them. The Breville Barista Touch machine seems to have a more robust descaling system, which makes it a great deal easier to clean and maintain in the long run after testing both out.

Breville Barista Touch Vs Philips 3200 LatteGo: Similarities

Because they are two automatic espresso machines, they have many similarities, which is a critical factor when comparing the two models. In particular, the heating system is a very significant similarity. The Breville Barista Touch has a thermocoil heating system, which is slightly different from the thermoblock system, but they are both basically working in the same way.

However, I have to say that using Thermoblock systems to construct these machines is a bit disappointing, primarily since they do not provide precise and consistent thermostat temperatures.

Both machines have a coffee input, which is another similarity between them. Neither one of these models allows you to use anything other than whole beans, which you place into the bean hopper and then use the grinders built into the models. Both of these machines do not allow the use of pre-ground coffee or pods, which is somewhat disappointing since I’d have enjoyed the added convenience and versatility they would have offered.
