Jura A1 vs Philips 3200: Check Out My Honest Comparison For These Potent Espresso Machines

I get commissions for purchases made through links in this post. Read more

It has been quite easy for me to pick the winner in the debate of Jura A1 vs Philips 3200. After a few brewing sessions, I can tell that it’s worthwhile to get a Philips 3200 instead of Jura A1, even though Jura A1 also brews delicious espresso.

A super-automatic machine with a well-rounded design, the winner is the Philips 3200. Excellent espresso taste and texture are combined with exceptional milk foam production from the steam wand. Overall, I’m delighted with its affordability and usefulness! Highly advisable even for new users and those on a low budget!

A close second because it primarily focuses on making espresso or coffee, the Jura A1 is a simple and easy machine. Users who want to produce milk-based beverages must use an additional milk frother because this machine lacks a milk system. In exchange, I’m happy with its delicious espresso and believe it to be adequate for customers with basic requirements.

Jura A1 vs Philips 3200: Differences

Philips 3200 wins 3-1 against Jura A1, and they tie in espresso flavor. For me, ergonomy is bliss when it comes to espresso machines. And that’s what Philips 3200 boasts of, unlike Jura A1. Its interface is much better designed, and placing all other brew parts is ideal for convenient use. I will give more details below!

Espresso flavor

It’s a tie!

Both Philips 3200 and Jura A1 are made for balanced and smooth espresso. The shots that I get from these models aren’t the most robust that I have experienced with other machines, but this doesn’t take away the fact that they can still brew delicious cups, just less bold of a flavor. Adjust the coffee strength of both models at the highest if you want a bolder espresso quality.

Grinder‘s operation

Winner: Jura A1

One of the best grinders for espresso machines is the ceramic burr grinder, which is included with both the Philips 3200 and Jura A1. But although they all use roughly the same kind of grinder, each one functions differently.

The grinder on Jura A1 is known as Aroma G3, and it has a ceramic burr and six settings. According to the company, this grinder produces even coffee grounds at various textures with ease and efficiency. And they didn’t lie about it. I get consistent ground batches judging from the machine dumping pucks after each brewing session.

There are 12 different grinding choices with the Philips 3200, and the grinder performs a good job. The grinder is set to 6 when I want a more subdued cup of espresso and 8 or 9 when I want a stronger beverage. Also, it is counterproductive to grind too finely. The thing is that Philips 3200 produces more sound with its grinder than Jura A1.

Milk System

Winner: Philips 3200

A1 has no milk system at all. Thus, Philips 3200 is clearly the winner. I can guarantee that this is not the only factor in this device’s success. For its inexpensive cost, it actually produces very decent foam.

An inexpensive machine staple, the steam wand is a feature of the Philips 3200. It requires user assistance, but I’ve never had to shake the jug excessively to get the right creamy milk texture. But drier and airier foam is not this machine’s specialty. If you are a big fan of microfoam and are ready to invest a bit more, the Philips 3200 LatteGo, a product of the same line as the Philips 3200, will be your perfect fit.

Water tank size and position

Winner: Philips 3200

Jura A1 comes with a very humble 37oz water tank that easily runs out if more than 2 users brew daily and frequently daily. As for Philips 3200, its standard 61oz water tank can hold out much longer and entertain a larger crowd.

The position of the tanks also catches my attention. While Philips 3200’s water tank offers frontal access for easy removal, Jura A1 water tank is located in the back and requires the machine to be put in an open space for more convenient removal.

Design and Material

Winner: Philips 3200

I find Jura A1 to be rather basic. Only the dispenser and drip tray are present on the machine’s front. In addition, the water tank is too small to be practical. With this variant, users will need to refill the tank more regularly. However, those who don’t frequently drink or purchase the machine for personal use rather than sharing it with other members might still choose the Jura A1.

On the other hand, Philips 3200 makes a nice impression. Although the footprint is small, the water tank has a capacity of about 60oz, which is impressive given its size. Its front touchscreen display is another something I like. Also, A1 is heavy despite its small water reservoir capacity.

Jura A1 vs Philips 3200: Similarities

I find it quite hard to determine the significant similarities between Jura A1 and Philips 3200. But check out these 1 that I find the most relevant.

Durable plastic finish

Both models are made of plastic, but the material used is safe with food and durable. There is a catch here, though. When I see a machine made of mostly plastic, I expect it to be lightweight. That’s the case with Philips 3200, but not Jura A1. Jura has a larger footprint and a bulkier design. Paired with its tiny 37oz water tank, the use of plastic is understandable but not favorable either. I don’t find the design of Jura A1 very appealing.

Elaborate cleaning indicators system

The most important similarity that Jura A1 and Philips 3200 share is the set of cleaning indicators. These devices have a very well-established system that alerts about the empty water tank, descaling and cleaning, and the existence of the water filter. These are more than enough to help users keep track of the real-time condition of the devices.
