Jura C65 vs D6: Which Has The Better Performance As An Entry-Level Coffee Machine?

I get commissions for purchases made through links in this post. Read more

Jura C65 vs D6 – a tough competition for the better entry-level coffee machine! Both machines have many common features, but after experiencing them, I am more on the Jura D6’s side.

The reason I choose the Jura D6 as the winner is that the machine offers an upgraded grinder and greater utility. The quieter and faster grinder performance and the additional smart app connection of the Jura D6 make the using experience more pleasant and intuitive.

Meanwhile, the Jura C65 provides the bypass doser for pre-ground coffee, which is absent on the Jura D6. Besides, the C65 also has similar adjustable coffee strength and volume to the D6. So, the C65 is more suitable for users who want to use pre-ground coffee to make decaf drinks.

Jura C65 vs D6: Differences

For the performance of Jura C65 vs D6’s, I’m more on the side of Jura D6. Particularly, the D6 wins 2-1 against the C65.

In my opinion, The D6 has better grinder performance and utility, but it does not have the bypass doser like the C65. For the flavor of coffee, I get the same experience, so it is a tie here.

Grinder

Winner: Jura D6

AromaG2 grinder on the Jura D6 performs a quieter and faster operation than the Aroma+ on the Jura C65. This maybe attributed to the slight change in the cutting angle of the burr grinder.

Apart from that, the grinders of these two machines allow me to adjust the fineness of the grinds, which is a small but important factor for having quality and flavorful espresso shots.

Dosing control

Winner: Jura C65

For this category, the Jura C65 is a bit more advantageous than the Jura D6 because it has the bypass ground-coffee doser. The Jura C65’s by-pass tube is particularly used for pre-ground coffee, which is very useful when you have no fresh coffee beans left. It is also convenient if you want to make a decaf to drink at night.

Though the Jura D6 does not feature a bypass doser, it does have all the programmable options for coffee strengths and volume found on the C65 machine. Thus, if you don’t mind this lack, the Jura D6 is still worth buying.

Coffee taste

Tie!

Long espresso made by Jura D6
Long espresso made by Jura D6

I made black coffee and espresso drinks with both machines and saw no significant difference in the flavors. Both Jura C65 and D6 can produce hot espresso with good taste and decent crema. It is also possible for me to adjust the coffee intensity and volume with these coffee centers.

The good coffee flavor from the Jura D6 and C65 can be thanks to the PEP (Pulse Extraction Process) technology of Jura. This technology helps the machine optimize the extraction time for deep and consistent espresso shots.

Because evaluating coffee taste is significantly subjective, you should consider other features to find the machine that best meets your needs.

Utility

Winner: Jura D6

App connection

The compatibility of the Jura D6 with Jura’s Smart Connect app, which is not included in the Jura C65 design, is one of the outstanding features of this automatic coffee center. I can use my tablet or smartphone to customize the coffee drinks more easily. The app interface is very friendly, and it lets me know what is happening and what to do to make a great cup of coffee.

The number of coffee specialties

The Jura D6 has more options for coffee specialties than the Jura C65. Particularly, the Jura D6 has all the presets of single/double coffee/espresso found on the C65. Besides, it added the cappuccino and milk presets, so I can adjust not only the coffee volume but also the milk amount for my drinks.

One benefit of the adjustable amount is that it will make the preparation of milk-based espresso easier and more controllable. Thus, I can enjoy the same taste of latte or cappuccino with ease by choosing the same settings on the Jura D6 for every use. Moreover, the hot water option is also useful when I want to make tea or hot chocolate.

Jura C65 vs D6: Similarities

The Jura C65 and D6 share the same standard technologies from Jura, including the thermoblock heating system, the PEP brewing technology, the Fine Foam Frother, the CLARIS and Intelligent Water System (I.W.S), and the energy saving mode.

Thanks to these technologies, the Jura D6 and C65 can heat up fast (less than 60 seconds), provide quality extraction, and good milk foam, as well as easy and effective cleaning/maintenance processes. They do not automatically turn off but is possible to program the switch-off time (from 15 minutes to 15 hours).

In short, the Jura C65 vs D6 has minor differences that may not have a significant impact on your experience. I personally prefer the Jura D6 to the C65 as I do not use preground coffee and love to make cappuccinos for my family. The D6 is also easy to use, so if you’re like me, you can give the Jura D6 a try.
