If I have a dollar each time that 3200 wins a round, I can buy another one of it. So Philips wins once again in the debate of Philips LatteGo 3200 vs 4000, just like it has in most comparisons of mid-range machines.

The winner Philips 3200 boasts stable espresso extraction and a 100% hands-free brewing experience with its automatic LatteGo and milk carafe system. I’m always satisfied with the milk foam that the machine is able to froth. The espresso flavor is very mellow and smooth as well. Also, this model has everything if you enjoy a modern design with cleaning indicators. I highly recommend this model for home use.

As for Philips 4000, it can deliver delicious, robust espresso flavor and automatically froth milk foam with its carafe system. I like the sleek design of this machine. However, it’s too hard to get my hands on this model, and it’s not easy to warranty such a scarce product line. That’s the major reason why I hesitate and don’t appreciate such fine design.

Philips LatteGo 3200 vs 4000: Differences

Philips LatteGo 3200 wins 3-1 against 4000, and they tie in the round of milk frothing ability. In fact, these models are up to par. But 4000 still can’t surpass 3200 in certain aspects of design. I will get into the details below.

Heat up time

Winner: Philips LatteGo 3200

Philips 3200 only needs under a minute to heat water completely to start the brewing cycle. It’s not the quickest on the market due to the classic single boiler system. However, it’s still much faster than other giant machines, especially those designed to entertain a large group of consumers (12-15-30 minutes to warm up).

With Philips 3200, it’s “start, zone out, and go.” So making a cup of cappuccino shouldn’t take more than 3 minutes, counting from the moment you turn the machine on.

As for Philips 4000, it takes slightly longer, around 1 to 2 minutes, to finish the preparation phase. Despite losing to 3200, it’s not by too much for it to be a turn off. I still consider 4000 to be an efficient model.

Espresso flavor

Winner: Philips 4000

In terms of espresso flavor, I believe Philips 4000 will impress more coffee drinkers, especially those that have a thing for strong coffee. With Philips 4000, I can describe the espresso flavor as robust, refreshing, and nutty. It also feels heavier on the tongue. This combination can wire you to a different person if you aren’t a heavy coffee drinker. But, if it’s the opposite, you will have refreshing cups every morning.

As for Philips 3200, I have brewed balanced espresso with a sweet, mellow, and nutty flavor. So there is a big difference between the flavor performance of the two. If you want a smooth cup to enjoy the authentic flavor of espresso without quivering due to the strong bitter taste, Philips 3200 is my go-to suggestion for you.

Milk frother

Tie!

In the case of the milk frother, I find the performance to be very akin between the two. I can get from steamed milk to microfoam without any problem. So recipes with different requirements for milk foam like flat white, latte, cappuccino, or macchiato aren’t a problem.

Temperature-wise, the milk comes out hot enough with both Philips Lattego 3200 and 4000. With coffees, we want the milk to be at around 150°F, which is no difficult task for both machines.

Grinder type and performance

Winner: Philips LatteGo 3200

Philips LatteGo 3200 is equipped with a conical grinder, while 4000 comes with a flat grinder. If you have checked my other reviews, you know that I have a hard time accepting flat grinders, despite their potent grinding power to deliver fresh and even ground.

Why? Due to their horizontal design, flat grinders sometimes don’t push all the bean clumps or ground down to the dosing circuit well. And as a result, they got stuck in the grinder, making it easier for it to get jammed. Of course, jamming won’t be a problem for new machines because the grinder’s teeth are still rigid and haven’t worn off yet. But in the long run? Cleaning or replacing it will be hectic.

The conical shape naturally guides the beans and ground down the dosing circuit and isn’t exposed to jams that easily.

Water tank position

Winner: Philips LatteGo 3200

Both machines have a side water tank, but the way we remove it makes a whole lot of difference. The water tank on Philips 3200 is front-access, so we can fit the machine in a corner and easily remove the tank. As for Philips 4000, it’s a top-access tank, so it’s obligatory to have open space above to pull the reservoir out.

Philips Lattego 3200 vs 4000: Similarities

Philips Lattego 3200 and 4000 target the same group of users, and they share a very similar modern design. So what do I know, and how do I see these similarities? The truth is here!

Target consumers

With the standard 61 oz water tank, 3200 and 4000 are made for small groups of users, not for offices or large parties. With 61oz of water, the machine can brew for 2-3 users daily without requiring more than 1 refill per day. In case you are thinking of brewing 7-8 cups or more daily and constantly, these machines aren’t made for it. They are not commercial machines, or they can work the pump pressure frequently without wearing off quickly.

So to whom will I recommend 3200 LatteGo and 4000? Small families, college students who share apartments, couples, etc., can make the most of these espresso makers without running them down too soon.

Beautiful modern design

Both Philips Lattego 3200 and 4000 are sleek-looking machines with the black exterior color. The frame is made mostly of plastic with very minor details made of stainless steel. If you pay attention to the aesthetic of your appliances, I believe this pair will be up to your standard.
