I get commissions for purchases made through links in this post. Read more

Which is the ultimate winner in the debate of Philips 3200 LatteGo vs 2200? It doesn’t take me long to compare the very few differences between these models. And for me, the true winner of the pair is Philips 3200.

The winner, Philips 3200 LatteGo, has excelled in many debates I have deciphered. This model is built for smooth and balanced espresso and microfoam drinks. If you are a fan of cappuccino, you will be impressed by this efficient and affordable model.

As for Philips 2200, it boasts of a consistent brewing system that delivers deliciously rich and bold espresso flavor. The simplicity of the machine is its biggest strength but also its weakness. For users that require a super-automatic machine with various one-touch buttons for milk-based drinks like latte or cappuccino, this machine doesn’t meet the expectation.

Philips 3200 LatteGo vs 2200: Differences

Philips 3200 LatteGo wins 3-1 against 2200 thanks to its more ergonomic brewing features like one-touch cappuccino or adjustable temperature system.

Espresso flavor

Winner: Philips 2200

Regarding espresso flavor, Philips 2200 surpasses Philips 3200 LatteGo. After many brewing sessions, I find the overall flavor that 3200 delivers tends to be more balanced and smooth instead of robust and refreshing. In other words, the espresso of 3200 tastes mellow compared to 2200.

If you are a strong coffee drinker, I recommend using 2200 instead of 3200 because this model is purely about espresso quality. Strong, full-bodied, and nutty are different notes of flavor that the machine never fails to present. Also, although there is no quick cappuccino button, you can still froth milk for a cup of this Italian-style beverage.

As for users with a softer flavor palette, I suggest going with Philips 3200. The flavor tends to be sweeter, less bitter, and full-bodied. But, the true essence of the espresso is noticeable in each shot that I pull. And it can brew great cups of Joe with flavored beans as well. Personally, I prefer the extraction of this model more because I’m not particularly into bold espresso. But if you get a hold of Vietnamese or African Robusta beans, a strong cup of espresso is almost “inevitable.”

Milk system

Winner: Philips 3200 LatteGo

What is the standard for a good milk frother? For me, any good system should be able to froth microfoam. Such a thing is difficult to ask for in cut-price espresso makers. But luckily, we can anticipate it in Philips 3200 LatteGo, a mid-range model. The LatteGo system allows coffee drinkers to froth airy milk foam without handling the milk jug like a classic Panarello wand. Do you want a 100% hands-free milk frothing experience? You get it with the LatteGo.

From my experience with this product line, the milk circuit works phenomenally, especially with the temperature. I always get hot cappuccino cups, and the right milk temperature contributes big time.

As for the Philips 2200, I can’t say that it disappoints me because I didn’t expect it to froth microfoam, judging by its price range. And after many frothing sessions, I can describe the milk texture as creamy but not thick enough. You can make flat white or mocha, but latte or cappuccino is outside this device’s comfort zone. Temperature-wise, I think the milk is hot enough for a soothing cup.

One-touch beverages system

Winner: Philips 3200 LatteGo

  • Philips 3200 LatteGo’s one-touch recipes: espresso, coffee, Americano, cappuccino, latte macchiato, hot water
  • Philips 2200 LatteGo’s one-touch recipes: espresso, coffee, hot water

There is no need for further explanation. Philips 3200 LatteGo is much more convenient thanks to its efficient automatic recipes. If you are constantly in a hurry in the morning and you want a quick cup of cappuccino for takeaway, 3200 LatteGo assists much better. It shouldn’t take too long for a cup of milk-based drink either. I have tested the cappuccino, and it doesn’t require more than 4 minutes from the first heat-up time to the last drop of extracted espresso.

Winner: Philips 3200 LatteGo

Regarding the temperature performance of Philips 3200 LatteGo and 2200, I find them both potent at making drinks hot. But the difference lies in the additional adjustable temperature feature, which is something that 3200 LatteGo has. 2200 doesn’t offer this option.

Philips 3200 LatteGo vs 2200: Similarities

Philips 3200 LatteGo and 2200 share more similarities in features than differences. And what are the most significant brewing experiences? I have the answers below!

Ceramic conical burr grinder

With a ceramic conical burr grinder, users can expect finely ground coffee beans and stable grinder functionality that avoids jams. The ceramic material is generally weak at conducting heat. Therefore, the coffee ground won’t heat up and alter the true flavor of espresso. Many machines with steel grinders have ruined the espresso for me because it tastes more burnt and bitter. Luckily it’s not a problem with Philips 3200 LatteGo and 2200.

Indicators for cleaning, water tank, and more

Various light indicators notify users when it’s time to clean/ descale the machine or refill the water tank. If you forget to insert the Aquaclean filter in the water tank, the pair will also tell you about it. These light indicators are a wonder for keeping up with the real-time status of the machines.

Water tank capacity

Both models have a 61oz water reservoir, a standard water tank size for home-use espresso machines. Some would comment that the tank is too small for them, but I think it depends a lot on the daily consumption and total number of users that the machine serves per day. Philips 3200 LatteGo and 2200 aren’t commercial machines by no means. And they can serve around 8 cups per day max if you want the devices to last. More than that, I don’t recommend it!
