The winner, the Delonghi Dinamica Plus, has a steady brewing cycle as well as great milk foam quality. Every element of this machine impresses me since they place a high value on consistency. For example, the grinder produces smooth ground extractions following extractions while making little noise.

Delonghi Dinamica Plus vs Philips Lattego 5400: Differences

Delonghi Dinamica Plus wins 4-1 against Philips Lattego 5400. Thanks to its more stable grinder and efficient heating system, the machine excels as the more convenient model that provides a comfortable home-barista experience in the long run.

Espresso flavor

Tie

Both can brew delicious espresso with very balanced flavor. The ratio of sweetness and bitterness is just right while not being too overpowering. Regarding the texture of the beverages, Delonghi Dinamica Plus seems to be better at making full-bodied drinks with velvety crema.

With Philips 5400, the espresso crema isn’t very noticeable, making the drink visually looks a bit watered-down. Even though it doesn’t directly affect the flavor, the lack of crema takes away a bit of the mouthfeel that I expect from espresso.

Grinder

Winner: Delonghi Dinamica Plus

Both types of grinder designs have advantages and disadvantages, but in my experience, the Delonghi Dinamica Plus has a more consistent one.

The grinder of the Delonghi Dinamica Plus is made of conical steel and has been regularly grinding beans smoothly and evenly. I’m also smitten by the idea that it can grind without causing a commotion.

On the other hand, steel is not the best material for coffee grinders since it warms up more quickly due to friction. As a result, the flavor of espresso and coffee is more bitter.

The ceramic burr grinder used in the Philips Lattego 5400’s grinder guarantees that the espresso flavor doesn’t change during brewing. And this model has maintained its composure in this regard. Since the ceramic material doesn’t significantly increase the heat of the beans, it is a nice touch.

Unfortunately, the Philips 5400 doesn’t have the quietest grinder. It’s quite noisy when I put it to work and produces a clacking sound. Even though it doesn’t affect the final texture of the coffee ground, it still is a tad annoying.

One-touch beverages

Tie

The list of one-touch beverages that this pair can brew includes:

  • Delonghi Dinamica Plus: Espresso, 2x espresso, coffee, long, doppio+, coffee pot, over ice, cappuccino, latte macchiato, cappuccino+, cappuccino mix, hot milk, caffe latte, flat white, espresso macchiato, hot water
  • Philips 5400 LatteGo: Espresso, coffee, Americano, cappuccino, latte macchiato, flat white, café au lait, caffe latte, caffé crema, ristretto, espresso lungo, travel mug function, frothed milk, hot water

There are certain differences between Philips 5400 and Delonghi Dinamica Plus’ one-touch recipes. But I think the variety is great, so it’s hard to notice them. And I think you will enjoy the list of any machine of the 2 you pick.

Heating system

Winner: Delonghi Dinamica Plus

The Philips Lattego 5400 only has a single boiler system, in contrast to the Delonghi Dinamica Plus’s twin boiler setup. As a result, there isn’t much distinction in the beverage’s temperature. It is ideal for immediate consumption. But for me, the earlier machine performs better in terms of milk foam temperature. Due to the expectation of what two boilers will provide, it is not surprising.

Also, a dual boiler system always guarantees a better temperature performance brew to steam, then steam to brew. It requires less waiting time between froths and extractions. So a dual boiler or dual Thermoblock, or any “dual” system, is always more recommendable than a single one.

Milk System

Winner: Delonghi Dinamica Plus

Since my Philips 3200 LatteGo is among the greatest inexpensive espresso machines I have ever owned, I often choose the LatteGo system. But the LatteGo on the 5400 hasn’t been all that great, which explains why I believe the milk system on the Delonghi Dinamica Plus is superior.

I get frothy milk foam from my Delonghi Dinamica Plus, perfect for cappuccino and latte art. And since we’re seeking an espresso machine that excels at making milk-based beverages, I’d advise you to look at this particular model.

I occasionally get dry foam using the LatteGo technology of the 5400. However, most of the time, the foam is creamy and appropriate for drinks that don’t require much foam like flat whites or mochas. I expected a more consistent foam performance from 5400 LatteGo, judging from how well the Philips 3200 LatteGo performs for me.
