Gaggia Anima Prestige vs Babila: Which coffee maker is better? My quick answer is the former model.

The Gaggia Babila is very formidable. This automatic coffee maker offers much versatility in espresso preparation. If you’re willing to spend some extra bucks, you’ll get many advanced features that will excite you, especially if you prefer excellent espresso and fine milk foam.

I also fell in love with the Anima Prestiges compact design. Regarding the espresso, I was also satisfied with the results, especially since the strength can be fine-tuned continuously. I also achieved excellent results when I adjusted the grinding, though I wish it was less cumbersome. It’s easy to use and beginner-friendly as well.

Gaggia Anima Prestige vs Babila: Key Differences

The Gaggia Babila became the overall winner with a score of 3-1. It is no small investment, but having many grind settings, a double boiler system, a wide range of drinks, and more, makes it the best bang for the buck.

ESPRESSO TASTE

The winner: Gaggia Babila

Grinder

Unlike many super automatics, both the Anima Prestige and Babila are fitted with a quiet and nice ceramic grinder, which will help to reduce heat buildup during the grinding process. This is a really big deal, as this grinder will preserve the delicate aroma of the coffee beans.

The Babila has 15 grind settings, which gets me pumped and is remarkable for an automatic machine at this price tag.

On the other hand, the Anima Prestige comes with only 5 grinding levels, which is not many but enough for most grinding processes. I should add that the grinding adjustment isn’t as simple as with its opponent. But with a bit of patience, the adjustment will work well.

Boiler

The Anima Prestige is equipped with one boiler, making it hard to maintain consistency. This can be a big problem when you want to make some milk-based drinks continuously, as the Thermoblock can’t keep up.

This is not an issue with the Babila since it has a double boiler system. You can prepare espresso and use the steam wand at the same time.

UTILITIES

The winner: Tie

Cup Height

The Babila’s dual coffee dispensing spout varies from 3 to 6 inches, while the Anima Prestige’s is fully adjustable from 3.15 to 6 inches. So you can get these spouts low to preserve crema while preparing espresso or lift them to make a larger drink. My glasses and cups all fit under them with no problem.

Preset Drinks

The winner features an easier drink setting and is designed to make mostly cappuccinos, macchiatos, lattes, and espresso. It has four one-touch presets, enabling me to brew my favorite drinks without manually fine-tuning the brewing time or the water temperature.

It is also a good option for drinkers looking for a super-automatic coffee machine with variable heat settings since it has three heat levels that can be controlled freely.

The runner-up is ideal for those who want a machine that can make different types of drinks. It features eight programmable settings, allowing users to create coffee, espressos, espresso lungos, lattes, cappuccinos, ristrettos, macchiatos, milk foam, flat whites, and so on. It covers various specialty coffees, so you don’t have to get a skilled barista’s help for an expensive cappuccino or espresso.

CONSTRUCTION AND SIZE

The winner: Gaggia Babila

I should mention that the Babila is constructed from stainless steel with chrome accents. Many of today’s coffee machines are made partly or completely from plastic, so that’s a big plus for the Gaggia . It isn’t the most iconic example of Italian design, but it has a sleek, streamlined silhouette.

On the other hand, most of the Anima Prestige is crafted from plastic, but its exterior is covered by stainless steel paneling. Appearance and aesthetics are highly subjective, but I think it’s not as attractive as the Babila.

I also appreciate the compact dimensions of the Anima Prestige and Babila (16.93 x 8.7 x 13.38 inches and 16.53 x 9.64 x 14.17 inches, respectively). At the end of the day, not everyone has enough space in their kitchen for a monster-sized coffee maker.

Gaggia Anima Prestige vs Babila: Similarities

 CLEANING AND MAINTAINING

Both products share the integrated automatic cleaning cycle. On the days I don’t want to make an extra effort, both machines know how to care for themselves without a fuss. This includes automatic washing, milk circuit cleaning, and descaling.’’

Regarding deep cleaning, you can take apart the brew group, water reservoir, and carafe from the machine for easier washing. Furthermore, even though it is not recommended by the manufacturer, I found that these parts are dishwasher-safe. So you can put them in your dishwasher and let it do the rest.

Display

I tend to overstate the importance of touchscreens when reviewing espresso makers. But unless it directly affects the quality of coffee and milk foam, I’m still happy with an easy-to-use text display and buttons.

I found the display of both hilariously old-fashioned since it reminds me of something I’ve seen in the Pacman game. But it is easy to read and clear, and some surrounding buttons make navigating the user interface of the machines a breeze.
