Enjoying a cup of fresh espresso in the morning is no longer something we can only get through coffee shops. Now, it’s all about home espresso. That’s why you need to know the winner of Delonghi EC155M vs ECP3420, a debate over highly affordable espresso machines.
For me, the absolute winner is Delonghi ECP3420. This machine boasts a much more durable design with various stainless steel frame panels. Its steam wand also is much more reasonably designed with a classic elongated shape, allowing users to froth milk with more comfortable movements. As for the espresso flavor, the taste is great for the price we got. I highly recommend this efficient and simple model.
As for EC155M, this machine can also deliver tasty espresso and froth from creamy to airy foam. However, it’s not the best choice if you don’t like brewing with slightly noisy espresso machines because its mounting could be more secure. And its steam wand is somewhat too short and bulky for my liking. But, it still is an affordable espresso maker that is a decent pick for your first home-barista experience.

Delonghi EC155M vs ECP3420: Differences
Delonghi ECP3420 wins 2-0 and ties 3 times against Delonghi EC155M thanks to its smooth espresso extraction and ideal steam wand design. Other than that, these devices’ brewing features are very akin. You can learn the details below!
Mounting, vibration, and noise
Winner: Delonghi ECP3420
The mounting of ECP3420 is much more secure than EC155M, which is why ECP340 vibrates less and produces less noise. Despite being an upgrade version of the EC155 and boasting a much more silent operation, EC155M still has a long way to go if it wants to surpass ECP3420 in mounting stability and low noise level. This may be due to its highly lightweight design, which sometimes isn’t the most positive trait in an espresso machine.

Espresso flavor
Tie
For enthusiasts of at-home brewing, this pair will satisfy their basic needs for coffee and espresso, especially if they are taking the first steps in the world of espresso machines. Both ECP3420 and EC155M provide a 15-bar extraction pressure mechanism for thick and full-flavor espresso.
Any Delonghi ECP3420 user will confirm that this product enables you to brew like an expert, whatever your preferences if you ask them (latte, cappuccino, or espresso). And with EC155M, users will be impressed by its full notes of flavor and velvety crema.
I don’t find any major difference in these machines’ espresso flavors, but I have some advice for you. Given this pair’s affordable and semi-automatic nature, it’s not recommended to brew more than 4 cups per day with them (both brewing and steaming). This will wear off the pump pressure very quickly, and you will need to fix or replace the machines entirely. I have tested ECP3620, a very close line to these machines, and it suffers pressure loss after one month.
Steam wand’s performance
Winner: Delonghi ECP3420
Delonghi ECP3420 has a standard Panarello wand that can froth from creamy to dry milk in about 40 seconds. Its wand is longer than EC155M, which is the major reason why I pick it as the winner of this round instead of EC155M. It’s so easy to maneuver the milk jug with it. I don’t feel like holding the jug in an uncomfortable position where it’s difficult to swirl the wand around.

On the contrary, EC155M is quite uncomfortable to work with. Its wand is short, bulky, and hard to deal with. For example, when I work with a large jug full of milk and want to swirl it around, it’s very easy to spill the milk because the short wand doesn’t allow me to handle the movement better.
Size and weight
Tie
Let’s start with the two machines’ weights and dimensions:
- Delonghi EC155M: this machine’s dimensions are 12.2 x 19.3 x 15 inches, and it weighs 3.5 pounds
- Delonghi ECP3420: this machine’s dimensions are 9.4 x 7.2 x 12 inches and it weighs 8.99 pounds.
The knob on the two coffee makers is another factor in addition to size and weight. Unlike the more wear-resistant metal knob on the ECP3420 model, the control knob of the EC155M is constructed of plastic.
If you notice, despite being more compact, ECP3420 is actually heavier than EC155M. This is because the device has more stainless steel parts than EC155M, which consists mostly of plastic. So ECP3420 is more compact and durable simultaneously, but not more lightweight.
Indicator light
Tie
Both Delonghi EC155M and ECP3420 have a simple yet effective set of indicator lights that tell users when it’s time to start brewing after heating up the machine. Alongside the light that notifies when the device is on, a different light only shines when the single boiler finishes brewing. That way, users won’t have to guess whether they can start brewing. So reduce the stress and brew whenever the pair tells you to!

I am Ralph Mason and I am a passionate coffee drinker. I worked as a barista for a few years and since 2012 I have been trying to convince as many people as possible of good coffee.
I started writing on the barista blog on RepublikCoffeeBar in 2018. It was a pure hobby site and I tested coffee products like coffee machines, beans, mug, and other accessories. After the first year, my blog is becoming a well-known coffee site with about 100 thousand visits per month.
In 2019 I decided to focus on RepublikCoffeeBar only. I became a full-time coffee blogger and was declared crazy by many.
