Are you looking to upgrade your home espresso machine but don’t know which one to choose? Look no further than the Delonghi Dedica vs ECP3420. Both machines are popular among coffee lovers and offer a range of features to suit your needs. But which one is right for you? We’ve done the hard work for you and compared the two machines side-by-side to help you decide.
Delonghi Dedica is the perfect espresso machine for any coffee lover. With its sleek design and impressive features, it’s easy to see why this model is so popular. From its adjustable milk frother to its one-touch brewing system, the Dedica makes every cup of espresso an enjoyable experience. And with its unique heating system, you can be sure that your espresso will always be at the perfect temperature.
Delonghi ECP3420 is also a good model on the market, and for some reason. It has a 15-bar pump pressure system, a stainless steel boiler, a removable water tank, a cup warmer, etc. On top of all that, it is relatively affordable compared to other espresso machines. But there are some certain limitations, and I will explain them clearly in this post!

Delonghi Dedica vs ECP3420: Differences
Delonghi Dedica beats 3-0 and ties once against ECP3420 because it has a powerful engine and heating element, which give it an edge over its competitor. Many utilities that Dedica offers also add to its superior performance.
Flavor
The winner: Delonghi Dedica
Heating system

The DeLonghi Dedica and DeLonghi ECP3420 espresso machines both offer excellent features for coffee lovers. One of the major differences between the two machines is their heating systems. The DeLonghi Dedica has a Thermoblock system, while the DeLonghi ECP3420 has a steel boiler.
Dedica’s technology is more efficient than the steel boiler, as it heats up quickly and ensures that the water is heated to the optimum temperature for a better espresso throughout the brewing process. The Delonghi ECP3420, on the other hand, has a precise and durable heating system, but it doesn’t provide the same level of temperature control as its competitors.
In reality, when I test a cup of drink with Dedica, sometimes it overheats when making two coffees or switching from coffee to milk. However, it’s not a big issue for me and can be solved by a few steps that are instructed in the manual guideline. Just put a container below the cappuccino maker and turn the steam dial. When the boiler is cool, hot water distribution is immediately halted.
Customization
Delonghi Dedica is a great espresso machine that makes good espresso suited to my taste. One of the key benefits of this machine I really appreciate is that it allows me to adjust the water temperature, giving me the freedom to choose between low, medium, and high.
The ECP3420, on the other hand, does not have this feature. While it is still a good machine, it lacks the flexibility that the Delonghi Dedica offers. Users may have to experiment with the settings to find the perfect temperature for their drink. That’s the reason why Delonghi Dedica is the superior choice in this round.
Milk System
The winner: Delonghi Dedica
The Delonghi Dedica and Delonghi ECP3420 are both espresso machines that come with a manual frother. However, the ECP3420’s milk system does not work as well as the Dedica’s. It does not properly steam the milk but instead just slightly agitates it. However, if I put milk in a jar and shake it for about 30 seconds, I can achieve the same result.
Additionally, the milk is not hot enough. This is a major drawback of the ECP3420, as it fails to provide an optimal experience when making espresso. The Dedica, on the other hand, has a much better steam wand that produces hot and properly frothed milk, making Dedica the winner compared to its rival.
Utility
The winner: Delonghi Dedica

The Delonghi Dedica offers a distinct advantage over the Delonghi ECP3420 in that it has separate buttons for programmable drinks, both single and double. This feature allows for greater control over the strength of your espresso easier, as you don’t have to manually adjust the settings each time you want to make a different type of drink.
Another advantage of the Dedica is its auto-off function, which allows you to set the machine to turn off after either 9 minutes, 30 minutes, or 9 hours. This is excellent for those who worry about leaving the machine on for too long or who simply want to conserve energy like me.
The Delonghi ECP3420, however, does not have this one. This indicates that users have to remember to turn the machine off manually, which can be a hassle and can lead to wasted energy if forgotten.
Moreover, Automatic flow stop is a feature that is available in Delonghi Dedica but not ECP3420. This technology ensures that the machine will automatically stop the flow of coffee when the desired amount has been reached, thus preventing any mess or spills.
Narrow design
Ties!
Delonghi Dedica and the ECP3420 also differ in size and style. The Delonghi Dedica is a smaller and more stylish machine, making it perfect for users looking for an espresso machine that can fit in a small kitchen or countertop. It has a sleek design, and its compact size makes it easy to store away when not in use.
On the other hand, the ECP3420 is a wider machine that takes up more space. It is a good choice for those who want a larger capacity.
Delonghi Dedica vs ECP3420: Similarities
Comparing two espresso machines (the Delonghi Dedica and the ECP3420) is not an easy task. The problem arises because there are so many factors in a single espresso machine that you should consider. In this section, let’s discover what I have found.
15 Bar pump pressure
Both the Delonghi Dedica and the ECP3420 have a pump pressure of 15 bar, allowing them to provide sufficient pressure for producing espresso. Because it forces more water through the coffee grounds, these two models can yield a more robust, delicious beverage than one with a lower pump pressure.
Cup warmer
The cup warmer in an espresso machine is a great benefit to have. It ensures that the espresso is served at the ideal temperature, which is important for the full flavor and aroma of the coffee. Moreover, if the cup is warm for a longer period of time beforehand, the coffee can remain at a desirable temperature and is more enjoyable. A coffee lover like me, who enjoy sipping their coffee slowly, finds this extremely interesting. Fortunately, both Dedica and ECP3420 are equipped with this feature.
Quick Rundown of Delonghi Dedica EC680BK
- Note: 1)Too coarse a grind, too little coffee, or insufficiently tamping the grounds before brewing can all lead to inadequate pressure for a proper brew. 2)It is important to note that the amount of espresso extracted will vary depending on the grind size and amount and reprogramming may be needed when the size and amount are adjusted
- Sleek design takes up only 6 inches of counter space, while still having a 35oz water tank
- The Cappuccino frothing system provides Barista quality foam; Cup warmer: Passive
- Thermos block technology allows the machine to heat up to the ideal temperature in a quick 40 seconds
- Automatic flow stop

I am Ralph Mason and I am a passionate coffee drinker. I worked as a barista for a few years and since 2012 I have been trying to convince as many people as possible of good coffee.
I started writing on the barista blog on RepublikCoffeeBar in 2018. It was a pure hobby site and I tested coffee products like coffee machines, beans, mug, and other accessories. After the first year, my blog is becoming a well-known coffee site with about 100 thousand visits per month.
In 2019 I decided to focus on RepublikCoffeeBar only. I became a full-time coffee blogger and was declared crazy by many.
