Jura ENA Micro 1 vs 5: Which Coffee Maker Should You Buy?

Jura ENA Micro 1 vs 5: Here is the comparison between the most highly-rated machines of the Jura Ena Micro line. They are exquisite machines but not as advanced as the other Jura’s high-end models.

The ENA Micro 5 is a more trustworthy option. It is simple to use and features a very compact footprint. It also looks sleek, elegant, and stylish and will pair well with tiny kitchens. On top of that, the machine comes with an intelligent double spout that can alter the dosage accordingly.

The Ena Micro 1 isn’t a bad machine, but its feature set is quite limited and far from greatness. It is an uninspiring and unexceptional model, and I provisionally recommend it for single drinkers with small kitchens who want a decent cup of coffee prepared with one-touch convenience.

Jura ENA Micro 1 vs 5: Differences

The ENA Micro 5 wins against the ENA Micro 1 with a score of 3 – 1. The former is extremely intuitive, easy to use, speedy, and always makes high-quality espresso. Its ability to brew two cups simultaneously is a savior for those morning rushes, and its compact size makes it easy to store on even the smallest countertops.

Espresso taste

The Winner: Jura ENA Micro 5

Grinder

The Micro 5’s built-in grinder is Aroma+  which can be activated with the push of a button. This conical burr grinder is ideal for a fine, consistent bean grind, exactly what we need for optimal espresso brewing.

Furthermore, the machine has an air-tight cover over the hopper,  which can store 4.4 ounces of coffee, to keep beans fresh between brew sessions.

The Jura ENA 1, on the other hand, has a Micro grinder which is also a conical burr style. It is made from stainless steel, which is both a blessing and a curse. Specifically, it can grind coffee beans lightning fast and is noise-free, but it is more prone to excessive heat, which can sometimes burn the grounds and ruin the espresso taste.

This grinder is combined with a 4-ounce hopper, which is too small for my liking but fits the compact size of the ENA 1.

Aroma+ grinder is designed to improve the grinding performance of the espresso maker, resulting in better extraction of aroma and flavor from the coffee beans. Better yet, it can work for a long time without overheating. So the ENA Micro 5 is definitely the better option here.

Boiler System

Both of these gadgets are packaged with double boiler systems. Their boilers are quite good, featuring Thermoblock technology to heat up rapidly, reducing the period you have to wait for your drink.

Normally, I’ll say several words about how I love double boiler systems since they give me the flexibility and freedom to brew coffee and steam milk simultaneously. Unfortunately, these machines lack the milk frothing system. So their second boiler wouldn’t have anything to do.

Utilities

The Winner: Jura ENA Micro 5

Adjustable Dual Spout

Regarding utilities, the Ena Micro 5 wins high marks here thanks to its double-serve spout, also known as the Intelligent spout. It can rotate and change the number of shots based on your choice. It is stylish and modern, and I frankly haven’t seen it on other espresso machines! This spout allowed me to brew one or two cups simultaneously just with a simple twist.

In addition to rotating, this double-spout can be adjusted from 1.2 to 4.4 inches in height, making a nice space for most cups and glasses. This is quite acceptable to most casual drinkers, although if you have a jumbo-sized cup, it may not fit in the cup clearance.

The Ena Micro 1 has a telescoping coffee spout, and you can choose from a single or double spout when ordering. This spout can be raised up to 5.5 inches to fit taller cups. A tall travel mug can even fit well under there. So you don’t need to prepare a designated espresso cup for this machine.

Preset drinks

The Winner: Jura ENA Micro 5

The list of coffee specialties of these machines is quite short. The reason is that they have no milk frothing system, so they do not offer milk-based beverages.

The menu of the ENA Micro 5 includes 6 espresso drinks, whereas the ENA Micro 1 offers 3 options. If you want to enjoy milk-based drinks, you must invest in a standalone frother

Wattages and capacity

The Winner: Jura ENA Micro 1

1450 watts applies to all Jura coffee machines, and these sturdy and robust models are no exception. They can brew a cup of coffee within 2 to 3 minutes without sacrificing taste and aroma.

The capacities of these compact gadgets are not very impressive because they are designed specifically for small-batch purposes. They are ideal for people who live alone and don’t drink much coffee daily but would be overwhelmed by a large family with multiple coffee lovers.

The ENA Micro 1 and ENA Micro 5 share a 37-ounce water tank, while the capacity of their bean hoppers is 9.9 and 4.4 ounces, respectively. I think this is enough to get your small group through a morning or two. But if you prefer brewing a bigger batch, the ENA Micro 1 is the way to go.

Jura ENA Micro 1 vs 5: Similars

No milk frothing system

These machines don’t come with any means of milk frothing, from steam wand to auto-frother. So if you love milk-based drinks and have your heart set on one of these models, buying a standalone frother is alright.

Design

The compact design is the signature point of both Micro 1 and Micro 5. So they aren’t machines you will have any difficulty finding a permanent position for.

Their dimensions are 12.7 x 17.5 x 9 inches and 9.06 x 17.52 x 12.72 inches, respectively. Obviously, with those dimensions, you can expect these babies to be lighter than other bigger models.

I also highly rate the construction and arrangement of these machines because their touch panel control is located on top of the machine. The Ena Micro line has a reputation for saving space. For this reason,  Jura has placed the operating panel on their heads rather than building on their frontal parts.

#3. Cleaning & maintenance

Although their control system is rudimentary, I’d go so far as to confirm that cleaning these machines has no learning curve. They are super automatics, so all you have to do to clean their brew groups is drop the tablet and push the button, then they will take care of the rest themselves.
