Jura D6 vs ENA 8: Differences

The Jura ENA 8 defeats the D6 by a score of 4-1. The ENA 8 offers more preset coffee drinks, a more advanced milk system, and an updated grinder. The higher capacity of the Jura D6 is ideal for those who drink a lot of coffee daily.

1. Espresso Taste

 The Winner: Jura ENA 8

Coffee Grinder

When it comes to brewing coffee, you can consider the Jura ENA 8 as an upgraded version of the D6. Because it offers some features that, when combined, make home brewing simpler, quicker, and more efficient.

The ENA 8’s coffee grinder is both faster and quieter than the grinder on the D6. This is because the Jura ENA 8 has an Aroma G3 model coffee grinder and an upgraded version of the Aroma G2 model on the Jura D6. Therefore, it makes up for the Aroma G2’s shortcomings.

The result is a finer coffee powder, which enhances the flavor of espresso without increasing the risk of bitterness. Compared to the G2, the grinding blades of the Aroma G3 are noticeably sharper. The end result is a consistent grind, no matter how many you brew in a single day.

Compared to the Aroma G3, the Aroma G2 grinds well but not as precisely as the Aroma G3. The Aroma G3 cuts the beans in a much more nuanced way so that each bean can show off its full flavor potential.

2. Dose Control

The Winner: It’s A Tie!

Programmability

Jura ENA 8 has 10 levels of coffee strength adjustments
Jura ENA 8 has 10 levels of coffee strength adjustments

The Jura ENA 8 wins back with higher programmability. Beginning with the coffee strength adjustments, the D6 features 4 levels of adjustable. You have 2 different levels for brewing temperature and hot water temperature adjustments. On the ENA 8, you can select from 10 different levels of coffee strength, 3 different levels of brewing temperature, and 3 different levels of hot water temperature.

The more programmability the machine has, the more opportunities you have to achieve drinks that are suited to your taste. If you want something dark and strong, you should set up the espresso for a stronger strength. For a more balanced taste, choose mid-level. Therefore, in terms of programmability, the Jura ENA 8 provides a more nuanced flavor than the D6.

Coffee Drinks

Comparing the Jura D6 to the ENA 8, the D6 has 7 different preset coffee drinks. On the other hand, there are 10 different preset drinks in the ENA 8.

In fact, only 3 of the 7 preset drinks offered on the Jura D6 are truly distinct. They are espresso, coffee, and cappuccino. The rest are double shots of these three drinks, portion of milk foam, and hot water. So the D6 only provides basic espresso drinks and only one milk-based drink.

On the other hand, Jura ENA 8 has a more diverse list of drinks. In addition to the basic drinks that the Jura D6 offers, the Jura ENA 8 includes drinks such as the Ristretto, Espresso doppio, Macchiato, Flat White, and Latte Macchiato. There is not a double shot of espresso drinks available at this machine. It makes sense because the Jura ENA 8 is a single-serve machine.

You can see that the D6 comes equipped with a built-in milk system, but it only can make one milk-based drink which is the cappuccino. The Jura ENA 8 can make more milk-based drinks. Therefore, the Jura ENA 8 is superior if you prefer milk-based drinks such as cappuccinos, lattes, and flat whites.

3. Milk System

The Winner: Jura ENA 8

The milk system on the Jura ENA 8 is more advanced than the one on the D6. The D6 has a Fine Foam frother, a more basic model. The ENA 8’s Fine Foam and Cappuccino frother is more texture-focused and powerful than its counterpart.

On the Jura ENA 8, the frothing of the milk can be more precisely adjusted to the specific drink you choose. And the flavor will be different depending on the milk-based drink. This level of customization is not available on the Jura D6.

4. Utilities

The Winner: Jura ENA 8

Interface

Jura D6's interface is quite simple
Jura D6’s interface is quite simple

The ENA 8 has a 2.8-inch TFT color display with buttons on both sides of the screen. Meanwhile, the D6 doesn’t have a screen or buttons to control your drinks. Instead, it has a simple set of knobs and digital text. This interface is easy to use. But it doesn’t feel as “premium” as more expensive models. Personally, I find the ENA 8’s interface is more intuitive and easy to use.

Coffee Spout Height

You can change the height of the coffee spout on the Jura D6 to a maximum height of 4.3 inches. Although this is an acceptable height, it is somewhat shorter than the Jura ENA 8. You can change the height of the coffee spout on the ENA 8 to a maximum of 5.4 inches. Therefore, it can fit taller cups, even a travel mug.

Capacity

The Jura D6’s bean hopper, water tank, and ground container have a larger capacity. This leads to fewer needs for refills as well as a more compact and space-saving design. The D6 has the capacity to hold up to 16 pucks of used coffee grounds. It has a tank capacity of 1.8 liters. And a 7-ounce bean hopper so you can make numerous espressos a day without having to refill the container.

The Jura ENA 8 is more compact (it can hold 1 liter of water), but it still has plenty of space to include a water filter, which is a huge pros. It has a bean hopper that is 4.4 ounces, which is about half the capacity of the Jura D6. Therefore, it is significantly more lightweight and narrower.

Pre-Ground Coffee

The Jura ENA 8 is the only model between these two that has a bypass doser for pre-ground coffee. If you want to prepare decaf beverages or if you want to try a different pre-ground espresso, this function is especially helpful. The D6 machine does not have this feature, which is disappointing for those who like decaf.

Jura D6 vs ENA 8: Similarities

the Jura D6 vs ENA 8 are 2 fantastic bean-to-cup espresso makers. Besides what they differ, they do share some similar bean-to-cup brewing abilities.

They share the same Thermoblock heating system, which is widely regarded as the most effective temperature control system available for household espresso machines. Both the espresso and the milk are heated to their optimal temperatures consistently.

You won’t need to worry about spending as much time maintaining the D6 and ENA 8 machines because they do their own automated rinsing, cleaning, and descaling.

In addition, they come equipped with a low-energy mode, an automated shut-off feature, and self-rinsing cycles for everyday maintenance, making them quite convenient.

The J.O.E. app works with both of these espresso makers. So y ou can control your machine from your smartphone or tablet. This not only makes the process of brewing quicker, but it also makes it more modern and user-friendly.
