- Grind your coffee beans – any coarse grind will suffice.
- Start by heating the water to a rolling boil. It should take about one minute for a typical pot of water to lower in temperature to 200 degrees Fahrenheit (or 93 degrees celsius).
- For every 8 ounces of water, add 2 tablespoons of ground coffee.
- After adding the desired amount of coffee and hot water, stir a few times inside the French press carafe.
- After stirring, allow the beans to steep for at least 4 minutes.
- Finally, press the plunger down with the attached rod and pour.
- Use a coffee grinder to grind the beans. The desired consistency can be adjusted by adjusting the level of coarse or fine grounds in the machine, midway between crushed salt and salt without grains.
- Heat water until boiling, but then let the temperature come down below boiling before proceeding.
- Put the dripper on top of your cup, proceed to place the filter over it, and pour water over the filter. Once all is in place dispose of excess liquid inside of the cup.
- Begin pouring just enough water to dampen the coffee grounds. The longer the coffee sits, the stronger it will be. Wait at least 30-45 seconds for a mildly strong cup of java or let it sit for 60 to 90 seconds for a more intense brew of coffee.
- Pour the rest of the water in a circular motion into the coffee grounds. Allow it to filter for about 3-4 minutes. The coffee is ready to drink after that time has elapsed.
